About this ebook

Today's the day, Rowen and Mick finally have their date. At least that’s Mick's plan, but plans are meant to be broken.

What could possibly go wrong when Rowen and Mick get together to enjoy that dinner Mick's been pushing—shoving, threatening, begging—for? Well, Mick could try to make small talk—that’s never good.

Miscommunication between the two leads to a very different outcome than expected. But that’s nothing compared to what happens once danger blows in from the west. The winds of change hit with all the gentleness of a cyclone. A disastrous dinner date, midnight marauders, enigmas exposed.

When the winds die down, who will be left standing?

I annoy, love, respect, scare, seduce, hurt, anger, infatuate, frustrate, flatter, envy, amuse and tolerate everyone. I just do it better in writing thanks to a little thing called...edits. Okay no, seriously...I'm a simple minded person who enjoys the escape from real life through a book. I write with the group Story Orgy and hope to continue doing so for a long time. I also am privileged to be with the Pulp Friction writers creating intermingling books in a world all our own. And just like every other red blooded human – I love hearing from people. So feel free to drop me a line – whether it's a comment on my blog, an email, a tweet or you track me down on FaceBook or Google + ... it's easy to catch someone who wants to be caught.

    Chapter One

Rowen Smithe stood staring up at Mick Rutger's cabin. Today was the day. Mick made it blatantly clear that if Rowen didn't show up, he'd get him and drag him over.

Though Rowen didn't fear Mick overpowering him, the possibility of what Mick would do to enforce his will was a strong enough incentive for Rowen to abide by the man's wishes.

Yeah, because Rowen didn't actually want to have dinner with the curly-haired man, he hadn't been annoying the hell out of Finn for two months now with the expectations of standing here in this very spot staring at Mick's door.

    Damn.

Rowen neglected to prepare for the need to actually enter Mick's cabin.

Just the other week, he actually invited—his actions still boggled his mind—but he invited Finn into his home. It was easier to do than Rowen would've thought because it was Finn. The same Finn who accepted him for over a dozen years.

But it was Mick that made Rowen want to do it. Mick made Rowen want a lot of things.

Including this date…but how was that supposed to happen if he couldn't walk into the man's cabin?

It isn't. You're being stupid. Haven't we had this conversation before? Turn around and go home.

Maybe for once the voice really was watching out for his best interests.

    Of course I am.

Shut up, I'm thinking here, Rowen growled in his head.

Pffft. Not much to think about. Climb those stairs, knock on that door, go inside precious Mick's cabin, and be yourself.

Rowen couldn't budge his feet. They felt cemented in their spot, heavy and immovable.

Exactly. Why do you do this to yourself?

Rowen! You're early, must be excited about getting this party started. Mick's upbeat as always voice carried over from the side of the cabin where he emerged.

I don't party, Rowen pointed out.

Mick chuckled and grabbed his elbow, obviously unaware that his feet had decided not to move.

Evidently his feet had no problem following Mick, especially since he wasn't leading them up the steps to the front door but around the cabin toward the back area.

Where are we going? Rowen questioned as they stood behind Mick's cabin and the curly-haired man continued to drag him through the trees.

You know what I like about Mountain Shadows? Mick answered Rowe's question with a question.

Plenty of fresh air? Rowen honestly tried to guess the proper answer.

Mick laughed as he looked behind him at Rowen, who still allowed himself to be towed along. When Mick tripped
