Bound By Fate - Karl Anders
Chapter 1
The surviving members of the deceased Master Trevor Kane had been introducing themselves to Master Dominic L’Enfant and his beloved mate, Master Hillary James. Dominic watched his beloved closely, concerned about how tired he was. Hillary was still adjusting to his mating and unplanned conversion from a human to a vampire when he had to give his life to save Dominic.
Perhaps we should go to the hotel, sweet?
Dom asked Hills.
I think so. It’s been an eventful two days.
That’s an understatement. It normally takes three days for the converted to be mostly healed. You shouldn’t be able to be doing as much as you have been, Hillary,
the Chief of the Vampire Council, Master August Bach observed.
I’m not letting Dominic do this alone.
Master August nodded, You two will be a force to be reckoned with.
People came out in singles and pairs as they sat under the tree. A family appeared with children. Hills came more alive when he saw them. He was wondering if the covens had any since he hadn’t seen any in Washington or Savannah.
Masters, I am Harold Manor. This is my wife, Emily, and our children, Katy, Julie, and Janet.
Dom and Hills got up to welcome them. Hills bent down to the children’s level. You’ll be safe with us.
Master Kane was not a nice man,
little Janet told them.
No, he wasn’t. He tried to kill me twice,
Hills replied.
The children’s eyes got wide. He killed Alex and Ethan’s parents,
Katy added.
We didn’t want to kill anyone today either. We gave them a chance but they decided to fight us.
We hid out upstairs in the back room,
Julie told them solemnly.
That was a smart thing to do. Dom and I want all of us to be a big family. His father treats everyone in his coven that way and that’s what we want to do here. Does that sound good?
The three children thought about that for a bit and then nodded. Dom had bent down to them also and they shared a hug with them.
Dom looked up at the parents and asked, Do you live in the mansion?
No. All the families live outside. There’s really nothing here for us,
Harold answered.
Dom turned to his father who was watching from a little away, Is that the reason we only had the other two families?
Master Pierre shrugged his shoulders. Our space is limited but as you know, quite a few live nearby, within a mile.
Dom looked at Hills. We’ll need to see if we can use the coven’s resources better.
He sighed heavily and continued, There’s so much to do.
The best way to start is to come in fresh tomorrow and look through the office. Maybe you can find the members that managed the coven?
Master August suggested.
Harold and Emily looked around at the few folks outside talking. Master Kane only trusted a couple of people. They were tightly bound to him. I don’t see Nathan Unger here. He ran the coven finances,
Harold told them.
Who was the manager?
Hills asked.
Harold whispered to him. He’s dead. I saw his body as we were getting out of the house.
Dom was getting ready to question them some more when two young boys ran out of the house towards them.
Are you going to be our parents now?
asked a brown-headed boy.
Don’t you have any?
Dom asked him.
He shook his head and Dom picked him up. What’s your name, little one?
I’m Alex. That’s Ethan, my brother. He doesn’t speak much.
Ethan had the same hair as Alex but was smaller and appeared to be a few years younger. Hills picked him up and asked him, Do you want us to be your parents?
Ethan nodded and buried his head in Hills’ shoulder. Hills turned to look at Dom, his face begging for help.
How about you Alex? Do you want us to be your parents? You’ll have two dads, you know.
Alex looked at them both, You don’t have a mom?
Dom chuckled Hills and I are partners. We have no wife.
Alex pondered that for a few seconds, I guess that will be OK. Do you two love each other?
Dom and Hills exchanged small smiles. Very much so and would love to have you as our sons.
Have you eaten?
Hills asked after looking at their dirty faces and clothes.
Not today,
Alex answered.
Hills’ heart broke at how they had been mistreated. Let’s see if we can take care of that.
I gather you two have had enough for today then,
Master Pierre observed.
Just as he was talking, Jacques Brill, the head of security for the Washington Coven and Dom’s friend appeared.
That didn’t take long for you to make a family,
he said looking at the pair and the two young boys.
Fate has a way. We’re heading to the hotel,
Dom responded.
Your rooms should be ready. How old are the boys?
Dom looked at Alex, I’m seven and Ethan is five.
Jacques smiled at him. I’ll send a message for one of the helpers to get clothes and some supplies. That should arrive after they had a bath. I guess we should stop for a hamburger on the way to the hotel?
Sounds good, Jac. We could get them some kid’s meals to hold them off.
Dom and Hills turned to Pierre and Dom spoke, Looks like you have two more grandkids, Papa.
Master Pierre
