The sequel to Open Roads

Bright and beautiful, Cassidy Barlow is one of Marionville's new breed of movers and shakers. Outspoken on political and social issues, Cass draws a lot of media attention and knows how to use it. Out and proud, Cass makes no apologies for who he is, or who he wants – and he wants Dylan Donaghy. The only thing is, from where Cass stands, Dylan seems to be involved with two different men.
-
Coming out. The most difficult phrase in Dylan Donaghy's vocabulary. He's made it this far in life with only his closest friends knowing he's gay. Dylan has a good reason for that to change – his deepening attraction to Cassidy Barlow. It doesn't come easy, but Dylan takes a few first steps out of the closet. It's his only choice if he wants to be with Cass, even though he knows Cass has some secrets of his own.
-
Every man has a private past and an unwritten future. What he won't confess stands between the two.

His hand gripped my shoulders again. His amber gaze drilled into mine. "Just so I don't step in it, Dylan, how many of them have you slept with? And don't lie to me."
I fought back against of wave of anger. How dare he imply I'd not tell him the truth? Being astute, he knew he'd pissed me off. I saw the apology in his eyes as he touched his fingertips to my lips.
"That didn't come out right, Dylan."
" Apology accepted. Before today, I might have told you it was none of your business, but now I think you should know. We're no longer intimate, but I have a very close, special relationship with both Travis and Tyler. I'm very happy for them that they both found a partner."
"That's what I figured out Friday night when they spent all that time running in and out of an area marked 'private'. Especially Templeton."
"Don't test me too often, Cass. I don't like it." I spoke sharper than intended, but he needed to know my boundaries. "There's a lot of space between your age and mine. Be careful not to judge until you get to where I am."
Those restless hands of his skimmed along my sides. "I'm not being judgmental, I swear. I just needed to know what the dynamics are between you and them so I don't put both feet in my mouth."
"Okay. I get it. And for what it's worth, all four of them, especially Travis, is rooting for you."
"Really? He's in my corner, is he?" Cass tucked his fingers under my belt and tugged. I levered my weight off the door and stepped past him, capturing his hand to pull him into the casual space I used for informal gatherings.
"He's using tough love on me when it comes to you, so don't be shocked, or surprised, at his little quips. Have a seat."
Cass eased down on the love seat and patted the spot beside him. I ignored him, and went to the bar. "What would you like to drink?"
"Ginger ale?"
I nodded and poured two, handing his to him with an apology it didn't come in a brandy snifter as I settled in beside him. I stopped him when he moved to put his arm around me.
"You're killing me here, Dylan."
"No, I'm not." I sipped my drink. "Cass, I don't want to make a misstep with you. I know what you want tonight, but what do you want next week? Or next month? Christ, what do I want next week?"
He leaned back and watched me with those amber eyes. His cool, even regard gave little indication of his thoughts. Cass downed his drink in three fast swallows, then swirled the ice around in the bottom of the empty glass.
"Do you always think everything to death, Dylan?"

4 stars from a Goodreads reader.... For me, this was the most anticipated book in the series. I was highly intrigued by Dylan's character after reading the first two books, and I'm happy to say that I wasn't disappointed. ... It's not often that authors in mm genre create characters over 40 and it's even more uncommon to have a 50 yr old hero.

CHAPTER 1
I wasn’t sure if Cassidy Barlow fascinated or terrified me. The man was out and proud, and I certainly admired his courage in that because he lived in the crosshairs of the local media. He was also one of those young men whose smoldering sexuality drew everyone, male or female, gay or straight. Try as I did to deny it, I was not immune to his obvious charms.
Cass topped the six-foot mark and possessed a body honed to perfection as much by outstanding genetics as the occasional hour spent sweating on weight machines. For Cassidy, the gym was more of an extension of his office and a place to network.
I’d been informed he was quite good at all sorts of networking.
A true blond, with neatly trimmed and styled hair the to-die-for shade of pure corn silk, he looked at the world through amazing brown eyes, the color of the finest American whiskey. When he’d first invited me to his bed, fifteen minutes after he met me, those gleaming orbs had darkened to coal. The memory of his husky baritone sent an aching heat into dark, secret places inside me every time I thought about his standing invitation to get horizontal.
I had no intention of getting involved with him. Whether he or other gays looked down on my cowardice didn’t matter to me. I wasn’t out, and I didn’t want to come out. Moving into his circle would surely open my closet door, and I couldn’t allow that to happen. But it seemed he’d breached my last bastion of protection. He was the featured speaker today at the Greater Marionville Business Owner’s Organization meeting, and he’d managed to be seated at my table for the luncheon, in the chair to my right.
The man was persistent, but I was equally determined not to let him know he’d gotten to me—and badly.
I smiled as he took his chair. Cassidy, good to see you again.
His left eyebrow inched up as he held out his right hand. Dylan, nice to see you today. I wasn’t sure you’d come.
I braced myself to touch him, to feel his warm, smooth palm and the strength of those long fingers as they wrapped around mine. Sure enough, I shook his hand and my skin tingled all the way to my poor little nipples. Damn the man.
Why me? What had turned him on to me? Did he like the challenge?
I’m a charter member of Marionville BOO, but you know that. I’m on the program committee. My name was on the invitation to your firm to have someone speak today.
I didn’t tell him I’d kept silent as the committee discussed the firm he worked for, not wanting to influence the outcome one way or the other. I’d left it to Lady Fate, and this is what she’d served me.
Cassidy grinned at me, his gorgeous eyes clear and sparkling in the sunlight streaming through the windows behind us, giving him a little halo.
I saw that. It’s why I volunteered. Lucky for me, the senior partners agreed.
His perfect smile widened. It’s their golf afternoon.
He already had a reputation as having a Midas touch. His bosses probably saw this meeting as a way to reel in a few new clients. I was sure he did.
Our monthly mixer is the place to troll for new clients, Mr. Barlow, not this benefit luncheon.
I stared at him until he finally let go of my hand. God, I hoped no one noticed how long he’d held on to me. I needed to have a serious talk with this fellow.
With both of us fully clothed and standing upright.
Oh, I know that. If anyone is interested in my services after they hear me speak, they’ll keep my bio and call me.
Everyone here is interested in their portfolio, Cassidy.
Are you interested, Dylan? And please, call me Cass. I asked you to do that before, if you recall.
I sipped some water from the crystal goblet in front of me. I set an elegant lunch table, if I did say so myself. My staff at The Wharf had outdone themselves. I was glad to be on some of my home turf, too. I could always plead that something at the restaurant needed my attention and flee Cassidy’s too open courtship. I took a deep breath and realized my mistake as his scent flowed into me and filled my lungs with the mingled fragrances of male, musk, citron, and vetiver.
Before I could stop the action, my chin lifted and I sucked in a second sampling. The man was too observant. He leaned closer, but, thank God, kept his expression neutral and his voice low. You like the cologne?
I leaned away, maintaining the distance between us. I recognize it. Very nice choice, Cassidy.
I guess you wouldn’t spend that much on something so frivolous, would you?
I met his gaze and spoke softly, but firmly. Don’t fish after how I spend my money, boy. It’ll only annoy me.
He licked his lips. Not piss you off?
It might. That’s the only warning you’ll get from me about it, so heed my words.
Cassidy leaned back in his chair. I hang on every word you say to me, Dylan, but you don’t seem to want to believe that.
He motioned across the room. There’s your buddy, Heath Kelley. Have you ever thanked him for introducing us?
Oh, yeah. I certainly had spoken to Heath about Cassidy. I’d also spoken to Travis, Tyler and Noel. They were my closest friends, and to a man shared the opinion I needed to get the stick out of my ass
and let Cassidy put something else up there. It was nice to know I could count on my posse for such sound and loving advice.
I could ignore three of them, but not Travis. I’d been his mentor for a long time, and he’d been my conscience on too many occasions for me to brush off his words of wisdom. Travis was forthright—and correct—and it stung.
All my affairs were with men who never challenged me to make a commitment, or come out, or even fall in love. And they were also men who wouldn’t fall in love with me. A high-class trick was still a trick. None of it was anything Cassidy Barlow had any right to know.
I speak with Heath frequently. I may have expressed my feelings in the matter.
He leaned back and fixed me with a speculative stare. Your friend can’t walk over and say ‘hello’?
Heath respects my wishes in certain matters.
Ah, I see. You need to consider your future happiness, Mr. Donaghy. Life is a lot sweeter on the outside.
I hadn’t planned to announce my aspirations to anyone at this juncture, much less to Cassidy, but it seemed as good a time as any to say the words aloud. "I’m considering running for city council and maybe even mayor. I don’t want my private
