About this ebook

Having thought for a long while, he is ready with his plan. He calls Juliet and orders her to bring a mirror.

She is obviously surprised because she does not know what he is going to do with a mirror, however, she brings him a mirror.

He takes the mirror in his hand and says to her, “I don’t think you ever look your face in the mirror.”

“No, Sir, I look myself in the mirror every day,” she gives a shy smile.

“You...I mean a woman like you...”

He deliberately leaves his sentence incomplete.

“Sir, I understand the term a woman like me. I know what you are thinking, but I see my face in the mirror. I look myself in the mirror every day to remind myself that my behaviour should never be as ugly as my face. I keep reminding myself,” she says and walks out of the room.

For Dharamji it is the worst defeat. He is almost shattered and he does not know how to react or what to do. He feels as if Juliet has shattered the mirror and he is struggling to find himself in those broken pieces of the mirror.

    Chapter One

He has been sitting silently, looking right in front of him, various thoughts developing in his mind. He lifts his head a little more and looks at the woman sitting in front of him. There is a small rectangle table between them. She has come to Dharamji for the job of governess. There is a letter on the table, which Dharamji had written as a response to that woman.

He recalls that he had placed the advertisement on a local newspaper. He had mentioned the address of his bungalow in Shimla, a beautiful hill-station in Himachal Pradesh, India. In response to that ad in the paper, he had received only one letter. Actually, the conditions he had mentioned in that advertisement were not going to be easy for the applicants. One particular condition was that the governess was supposed to stay at his residence 24 hours in a day without any leave. Through that advertisement he had clarified that he was alone and he needed a governess. He had also mentioned that he was physically not well.

He looks at Juliet once again. He had written to her in response and she had also sent a letter in reply. She had accepted all his conditions, so Dharamji had written to her to come to his residence, with her necessary luggage. He had assured that she was appointed.

Now she is sitting in front of him, silent and a bit nervous, as is obvious on her
