Almora Dresden left her shoulder length soft black hair down. The big curls flipped up at the ends. Her eyes, a mixture of green the shade of a pine forest with golden flecks, took in the computer screen. She was listening to the newer alternative music that she was exploring lately on one of the internet music channels. The song she just heard made her pause. One of her favorite alternative artists had added a new twist to a cover. Bad ass.

She owned her own comic book design studio and was interviewing for another artist. Her workload had become intense, even for a workaholic like herself. She had narrowed her search to one or two candidates. A, Mr. Leaf Fallon and a Ms. Ada Sinclair.

She briefly interviewed the two over the computer. They both looked promising, so she arranged for them to come in for a second interview at her office. She interviewed them separately, because she hated group interviews.

Ada Sinclair seemed extremely promising. She was 39 with 14 years of experience. She was dressed professionally in blue slacks and a long blue blouse that was longer in the back than the front. There were white strips of cloth attached to the front of the shoulders, with a darker blue backing. Her nails and hands were clean. Unusual for a cartoonist. She had long extremely thick golden blonde hair that hung to the middle of her back and side bangs. Her eyes were onyx. Almora always noticed eyes. The dark eyes were an extraordinary contrast to her golden blonde hair. She kept looking at her hands when she thought. Her main source of thought. Manual dexterity. She had a spirituality about her. Almora could read people well. Just a fact. Almora looked at her portfolio and was sold. She was just what Almora was looking for.

I left my hair down today, for the interview, but it’s so heavy, sometimes it gets on my nerves. Ada said, as she left and the conversation became more relaxed.

Mine sometimes gets heavy too, but I can’t stand to wear it up. Almora replied smiling.

They heard a soft knock at the door. Ready Ada? A short thin bleached blonde man stepped up to the door.

Feeling ok, baby? He asked. He bent down and kissed her cheek and placed a hand on her abdomen.

    Pregnant? Almora asked, surprised.

    MmmHmmm. Ada glowed.

So did Lex, her husband. We have tried so long. Happiness doesn’t describe how we feel. Ada smiled.

As an afterthought, Almora prepared to interview Leaf. When he walked in, she was stunned. His eyes were cerulean blue. She described everything in paint color in her mind, but that was the color. Black hair. Black hair. Need she say more? His eyes were beautiful. They were intelligently wide set and slightly curved downward at the edges. Tired eyes. He was lean and had a balanced body type. He had five o’clock shadow. She noticed an edge of a tattoo starting at his lower neckline, below his black graphic t-shirt. He had on black jeans, and black ankle length shoes. He wore a ring on his middle finger of his right hand, but she didn’t notice a wedding ring.

Have a seat, she said. He sat down in the chair across from her desk with fluid movements. He was assessing her. She could feel it. His eyes followed her movements. She seemed extremely promising, he thought.

What experience do you have? She asked, nervous. She was never nervous. He presented her with his portfolio. His work was some of the best she’d seen.

You’re studio’s nice. Nice work space. He walked over to a work station and started drawing. He sketched out a situation of them. He had assessed the situation as him getting hired. What an egotistical maniacal bastard.

I’m sorry, but I believe I have already decided to hire the other candidate. She said coldly.

Don’t be hasty. He said. He came close to her and she felt waves of sensation washed through her veins. She quickly stepped away. She wanted to get closer.

She seemed flustered. Her face was flushed. Hot.

Don’t be hasty. You’ll definitely regret it. He smiled a devouring grin.

Let me review your resume again and I’ll get back with you. She said disoriented.

He walked to the door. He snickered and dipped and shook his head back and forth. He walked out and closed the door behind him quietly.

Leaf walked to the train station. He boarded and sat down. He didn’t listen to music on the train. He wanted to stay in tune with the environment. He gained inspiration for his art work. He started sketching a couple action scenes for the local paper that he worked for. He thought of the….Almora that was her name. He hoped she hired him, dammit. It wasn’t like he really gave a shit at this point, he had been turned down enough, but she had a sweet deal in her studio. He would like to work there.

Almora called Ada and was ready to offer her the position. Her husband Lex answered and said that he couldn’t let Ada take the job. She had just gone to her OB-GYN and had to be put on bed rest.

Almora said she was disappointed and hoped everything was ok and that if Ada needed a job in the future, she was welcome at her studio.

Lex stated that he appreciated it.

Almora sat in her desk chair silently. She was thinking about Leaf. She was thinking about Leaf’s arms, legs, tattoo, eyes…especially his eyes. The blue had been so intense in contrast to his black hair. He was a little on the thin side, but was well proportioned. He
