Waiting for the Dawn

About this ebook
For all those unfortunate people who have had the sentence of insomnia for various
reasons, I extend my heartfelt sympathy and wish that you find rewards in the
hardship as I try to do. On those long nights the only thing I can do is think, pray or
rearrange the contents of my refrigerator on a snack raid. Sometimes I make notes
while watching old movies, but then I can not always decipher them in the morning.
I also have to be careful to resist ordering from telecomercials that seem to have
much more importance when I am pondering my own existence for which I do not
get an extra one absolutely free to give to a friend for only a small additional
handling fee. I can, however, share a few musings without charge by writing them
during the day.

Waiting for the Dawn - Doug Montgomery
1.
PASSING TIME
Nights come quickly now.
Clouds fly, waxing the moon
as shattered beams stab out
on what may yet be done.
Dawns come guilt-fully
in sloth-like slowness
begging sleep stay as if nothing
still need be finished.
With the promising brightness,
hurried winds of change
sigh through my old breast.
Time, thou hast no respect!
2.
THE ECLIPSE
For a while they kissed:
The moon and the sun.
Evaporating pillars of flame,
Ageless ringlets of dust,
Craters devouring flares.
For moments faith existed
Juxtaposed with reality.
The view from here,
The scene from there,
Fused into one
Surrealistic, shimmering,
Jagged arc.
Time was arrested!
A sentence pronounced!
Silence gripped the gallery!
The prisoner’s face fell dark!
The radiant mother’s lips
Met the captive son’s brow.
The courtyard shrank.
The garden closed in.
The city faded in the distance.
The land became silhouetted.
Shadows on the firmament
Stretched and darkened.
Secrets hidden there became insignificant.
Men’s plans turned to Babel.
Songbirds fell to sleep.
Owls awakened.
Bees were confused.
The dusky balloon sailed on…..
Breaking the burning bailiff’s hold.
With a parting embrace
Time was freed again.
Its shrinking candle relit.
Shadows shrank and hid.
The walk of life resumed.
Plans flickered back to life.
Humankind struggled on!
