When Debbie and I looked at those associated with our current co-workers at DUMC, we found not only the individual traits but the dependence each one had on the team. Come and look at what made our team a success; not only in the business world, but inour day to day lives. Your work, church, family, or personal team can truly improve by simply determining, using, and expanding your Go-given mix. Try now for yourself and focus on your team's gifts, talents, and abilities.

    Winning Team Devotions - Introduction

    Galatians 5:22

Galatians 5:22 tells us what Christians are supposed to be all about. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law. Working in a hospital billing operation, where revenue is our game, patient service and fairness is our true aim. We face, for the patient, many of the same issues that make it so difficult for patients to understand and pay their bills. Being the patient's voice is a demanding task that brings many frustrations, e.g.:

The patient has multiple insurance coverages and pays even unnecessarily for extra health care benefits just to be safe. The billing of the appropriate coverage often holds up clearing a patient's account. Whether it be a grant, special conditions, primary coverage, workers' comp, case management, OBP, governmental multiple coverage, or even preparing for inadequate patient insurance coverage, billing the patient can only happen after all other coverage is cleared up and refunded/adjusted correctly.

Weighing the cost of patient/growth is an ambiguous area to manage, but patient service means that we are the voice of the patient today and in the future.

Debbie Isler and I thought about these problems for revenue management the week before Christmas 2009 (when Santa arrives with his bag of goodies.) We looked closely at the gifts and talents He has brought my teammates in the past to prepare us for this assignment. There are always particular traits of winning teams and we observed
