Brittany and Her Magic Glasses - Mike Little

    Dedication

There are so many people who have helped me draw this book together. My granddaughter, now 17 years old, has lived a life of Christian discipleship for the past 6 years. I started the book when she was in the fourth grade and we have developed this character as she has grown over this time. What can I say? She is smarter than her parents and grandparents, she is as dedicated to her Lord as the best of us (including her pastor grandfather), she is committed to her schoolwork and her chorus (as you will begin to learn in the next few books we write).

Her grandmother Rose is my wife and the stitching that holds our blanket group together. She never misses an opportunity to praise and encourage me or Brittany. We could never have pursued this book dream without her review, suggestions, and editing.

Brittany's father and mother, though divorced, have given us three the opportunity to be together every Tuesday for the past 9 years so I can see how Brittany has matured and become the Christian lady she is today. I thank her for her input, honesty, openness, and listening to what message we want to put across, as well as sharing her Christian witness.

We thank the Lord Jesus Christ for giving us the determination, drive, and desire to share our embellished story for His glory with our readers finally.

Chapter 1: Brittany and Her Magic Glasses

    Date; June 1, 2006

Today is Wednesday and school is almost over for the eighth grade. I have done very well this year and besides making A’s and B’s all year, I have gotten $99.00 toward my goal of $100.00. I got $34.00 for my good grades and the rest for my birthday. Yesterday I spent the afternoon with Grandma and Grandpa after school like I do most Tuesday’s. I love to go to Grandma’s because she is so smart. I can tell her anything. She is always telling me to be responsible, polite, respect authority, and do what my parents and teachers tell me to do. She lets me watch TV, play computer, play with my DS, eat ice cream when I want to, and she listens when I tell her something. I told her about my glasses yesterday and she listened and believed me; that certainly means a lot to me. Let me go back to where the story began and tell you about my glasses ……..

    Date: February 1, 2006

Brittany, get your books. We have to get to school. we rushed out the door to Mom’s car while she kept on yelling, Do you have your homework? Did you pick up your lunch? Did you put your cereal bowl in the sink? Is your blouse clean? Sometimes, you make me so ill by not doing what I tell you! Did you make up your bed? Did you get your clothes off the floor? Just like every school morning, Mom would worry and tell me what all I had forgotten to do. I usually can just shut it off by picking up a book and reading, but this morning it was beginning to bother me. It was a long way to school and I knew I was in for it. Then, the dreaded question finally hit, Don't forget to put on the glasses for class. Do you even have them?

Yeah, they are in my book bag; I’ll put them on at school, I lied. I didn’t have a clue where my glasses were and I hadn’t worn them for a week or so. No way that I was going to tell Mom this morning though. After what seemed like forever, we pulled up to the school and I jumped out of the car and ran around to kiss Mom good bye. See you this afternoon;--Are we still going to McDonald’s for dinner? I pled with Mom".

Of course, I don’t have much money, but I always have enough to keep my promises to you. Have a good day at school. I’ll pick you up here about 3:15. I ran off to where Samantha and Sophia waited for me and we talked and joked all the way to class. As I started class, I couldn't help, but think about going to McDonald’s for dinner. I don’t get to be boss much at home; but when I go out to eat, I get my choice and I love that.

Brittany, can you read the assignment on the board to everyone, so they can write it down, please, my teacher Mr. Yowell said. I just couldn't make out a single word; I was so surprised, but I told him I’d left my glasses at home and so he had someone else read it. That was the first I realized I really couldn’t see very well without my glasses. He moved me up front so I can see a little better, but it didn’t help that much, actually.

That night when we went to McDonald’s, I got another surprise. Mom smiled at me and said Brittany, you always get the same thing; read me the menu off the board and let’s see if we can find something different! I complained about wanting the same thing because I liked the same thing, but she insisted I read the menu. When I stammered through and couldn’t
