    Preface:

Singapore is multicultural with a huge population that's Chinese. Are the locals superstitious, you might ask? Sure…all societies foster their own superstitious beliefs to some extent and the Singaporeans are no less when it comes to superstition. When it comes to the Hungry Ghost Festival that the Chinese hold which usually falls in the month of August, there are rules you have to follow like not stepping on their incense or burnt papers which may fly around during this gloomy season. In the seventh month, it is the Chinese belief that ghosts are released and given a free reign to walk on earth. There is a belief just like that of Halloween that a thin line is formed between the real world which is ours' and the netherworld, and during this time spirits can make crossovers easily into our world. And so, during this time, the Chinese make peace offerings to discourage these entities from making their entry into their doorsteps. No one likes a ghost in their home do they? So, when you see these burnt incense papers lying on the road, don't step on them as there are stories that the ghost while making its crossover into the real world, might actually get latched onto you and then possess you! The festival is about appeasing the ghosts who walk during this time and the Chinese appease these hungry ghosts with food, joss sticks and paper shaped in the form of luxurious goods as an offer to the afterlife.

    But back to our stories…

If you have read Part I and are looking to sink your teeth into Part II, then you must be curious about Singapore's ghosts. Stay put because I have plenty to tell and it is still not enough! And if you are one adventurous ghost hunter and a traveler who likes to check out ghost hunting expeditions and ready for that long night walk, then brace up for the island's ghost walks. It might be just one of the many excursions to consider while visiting the island of Singapore. You see, Singapore is simply teeming with paranormal activities and they have many haunts to share. Ask anyone on the street and they'll tell you about their own ghostly experiences, some of them geared to make your skin crawl! They will tell you about the ghosts they saw on the subway station not casting shadows on the mirror and about the Japanese ghost without legs demanding food in Chinese and they will even tell you about the eerie vampire woman who spots with long hair and white clothes with a smell that is close to agonizing. She's always seen where the waters are like the beaches, jetties and sometimes perched atop in her favorite tree. And yes, she's real, so real that she will make your hair stand on its ends because the locals will tell you about why there are some days on the neighboring islands which are just not good for walking around. According to the locals, Thursdays might be just one of those days when Pontianak and her monster friends like the half man half owl sometimes seen on Pulau Tekong walk looking for blood from their victims. And Pontianak is known to have a voice that simply bewitches, so beware!

As you read, you will know the rich history about the island called Singapore and that many of the old haunts are inherent in the colonial styled buildings left behind by the British. When they left, these formidable structures were sadly left to waste on the island.

As you read Part II, you might just wonder how these people live with the ghosts all around them. Yes, just how do they? Wouldn't you be frightened about being pressed down by some nasty spirits in Changi? Well, some men had that frightful experience one day and had a lot to tell and then there are the stories about the shadows which walk in the Commando Barracks in Changi and the revengeful woman who thinks that by dressing in red, she gets her revenge said against her husband.

Well maybe I should just leave you alone to read the rest….Happy Reading!

    A Vendetta Signed in Blood:

Take a walk around Singapore and what will gather before your eyes are satellite towns in places like Jurong, Bedok and Pasir Ris and many more where high rise buildings sometimes reach the sky, towering with the little homes they nestle within their gigantic forms and yet powerful in the way they stand their ground. You will wonder at the manner in which these locals live their lives, in small little houses which lie safely tucked in large apartment buildings
