Real Ghost Stories In The UK - Granger T Barr

    Introduction

In that regard, the haunted houses all have interesting backstories.

Some have witnessed horrific disasters, while others have been proud witnesses to beautiful events.

Perhaps it is the residents' heightened emotions during these times of joy or sadness that have been left behind, and it is our subconscious sensing of these feelings that we pick up on when we visit them?

Whatever the reason for these haunted houses, visiting them can be an unforgettable experience.

I've never been a fan of those houses where you arrive on a timed ticket and are then led around by a guide in a group.

Give me a wild and desolate haunted ruin on Ireland's west coast of Scotland's Highlands any day, whether it be a neat and ordered National Trust house in the Home Counties, or other grand castles, manors or an Inn in and around Great Britain.

I believe this is because the atmosphere is essential to me when I visit a haunted house.

Therefore, I prefer to become acquainted with my surroundings and build my mental image of the types of people who have lived there rather than being exposed to a written interpretation of the house's history.

Many historic structures are under good care. No wonder there are a few ghost stories placed here and there. You'll meet strange apparitions, headless spirits, troubled spirits, and a friendly spirit who enjoys seeing children in the cemetery.

There are majestic homes, cottages, castles, farms, and even a Regency playhouse among the constructions.

As far back as the 12th century, they've got a lot of tales to tell.

One or more of them may even be haunted. So here's hoping they're helpful to you.

According to local legend, the ghost of King Henry VIII's unhappy wife haunts Blickling Hall in Norfolk.

She is said to emerge on the anniversary of her execution each year.

One of history's most famous phantoms lives in this majestic Norfolk mansion: Anne Boleyn.

Blickling Hall is constructed on the site of an older mediaeval mansion considered to be her birthplace.

Henry VIII famously beheaded Anne Boleyn after he got unsatisfied with her failure to bear him a son and heir.

    Blinkling, Norfolk

The Boleyn family lived on this sprawling Norfolk manor, haunted by a prominent paternal relative.

Blickling Hall, part of the notorious Blickling Estate, had ruled over the surrounding lands since the 15th century when it was built by Sir John Fastolf of Caister, who amassed wealth during the Hundred Years
