    Introduction

    Studies have shown that infertility in America is increasing. It is important that couples experiencing trouble realize that they are not alone. For couples between the ages of 20 and 45, fifteen out of every one hundred will have trouble with infertility. Because it affects men and women equally, it is crucial both seek treatment.

    Children can be one of the great joys of life, but difficulties conceiving can be a source of grief. Thankfully, our modern world offers hope to those who have trouble with conception. There are many ways both natural and synthetic for infertile couples to give birth to a child. In addition, there are several alternatives to pregnancy, which allow couples to have children.

    I personally have had several friends who have had difficulty conceiving. Two were diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), and one had an abnormally shaped uterus. Because of my training in Natural Family Planning and my interest in medicine, I was able to encourage and help them achieve pleasing solutions.

    After several fertility treatments, Kim (names are changed for privacy) was tired of the cost and trouble. She had conceived one child but had been diagnosed with PCOS. She consulted me and asked if I could help her. She was willing to follow my instructions and conceived so quickly that she said she wished she had come to me first.

    Melanie also had PCOS and had already lost one of her ovaries. She was not interested in fertility treatments or natural family planning methods. When both of her parents passed away, she decided to take custody of her disabled sister instead of having children of her own. Although not a traditional adoption, she cares for her sister as if she were her biological child.

    Trudy had one child but wanted another one. After experiencing secondary infertility, she discovered that her uterus was structurally abnormal and made conception difficult. She knew
