About this ebook

Inspired by true events, D. C. Wiggins tells a story of disappointment, pain, temptation, and betrayal in her debut novel. Emotional depravity and the lack of communication threaten to drive Malik and Desiree completely apart as he endures a long, hard recovery from a brain surgery that removed a benign tumor. Rather than let Desiree support and nurture him through his healing process, Malik shuts her out, finding he is more frustrated than ever with Desiree...and with himself. As temptations bombard them during their darkest hour, the couple will have to learn the importance of truth and wisdom as they travel this difficult path.

    BOOK SYNOPSIS

Desiree gets all wrapped up in outside activities, hoping to boost her sagging self-esteem by being impressive at work. In the meantime, she and Malik pass each other in the hallway, occasionally eat at the same table and sleep in separate beds. The intimacy is no longer there. Malik and Desiree co-habitate, but there is no emotional fulfillment in their relationship. Can they rebuild what was lost? What will happen in their darkest hour?

    Chapter One

    It’s Getting Dark Quick

It’s Saturday again. My weekends never feel like down time to me. I sit at my cluttered desk amidst bills, overdue notices, physician referrals, unread magazines, and unopened mail. Life has never been more challenging. Of course, Malik and I have had our ups and downs before. No marriage is ever perfect. After all, if men could do it by themselves, why would they need a helpmeet? Malik was only five years old when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. His childhood was changed forever, as was his ability to be completely independent. I’m told that Malik spent almost two years in the hospital, often plagued with seizures. A surgery of that type did not have a good prognosis on children. The pediatric neurologist did not expect him to live more than three years. He surprised his parents and the doctors when he was able to catch up on his missed studies, and even graduate on time with his peers. I was fully aware of his difficulties, yet the love that he and I
