    You're hopelessly straight, my gay buddy once told me with a slight middle-eastern accent. He hates the term 'buddy,' which I always thought as a rather complimentary term, however, I learned very early on that in his world, the gay world, the term suggests a lack of affection and clearly states you have no physical inclinations towards a person. I guess that's true in my world, too. After all, if I refer to a person of the opposite sex as 'my buddy,' I guess I'm not necessarily saying I find her physically desirable; probably the opposite, as matter of fact.

    Abbas, my gay buddy, and I decided to do one of our occasional Chicago day-hikes during a brisk fall weekend. I had been looking forward to it the entire week since my new job had been especially stressful, my days long and I seemed to think about nothing else. A splendid six-hour walk in the city would allow me to completely immerse myself in the sunshine, the shops, the culture, and his always-entertaining gay sex stories. I would be renewed!
