      Chapter One

      Pushing though the front doors of my building with my bag thrown over my shoulder, I made my way across the foyer to the elevator on the back wall. It had been one hell of a day and I was ready to be home. I just had to make it to the third floor.  A nice uneventful evening at home is just what I needed.

      From the minute I'd set foot outside this morning, nothing had seemed to go my way. It was raining; had been raining most of the night. My car wouldn't start. I couldn't walk to work in a downpour, so I had to wait on the mechanic.

      I was late to work and my new assistant had called in. Not only did I have to do my job, but hers as well. It had been a mess and I'd gotten nothing productive done.

      Because I had been busy all day, I'd missed both calls from my boyfriend whom I hadn't seen in forever. When I tried to call him back all I got was his voice mail. He was probably mad at me for not picking up in the first place. 

      Then I'd stopped by the drugstore on the way home for shampoo. I'd ran in through the rain, grabbed what I needed and ran back to my car. I was halfway
