Stop it! I said, unlocking my lips from his and pushing his hand away from between my legs for the third time. I don’t know why he had to be so insistent about it. He really thought he was going to get into my pants tonight. First, it was only our second date and I wasn’t that easy. Second, we were in a beat up car with no backseat and a stickshift between us. And third… I hadn’t told him that part yet, but I guess this was the best time for it.

Zach, listen, I said, backing away from him for a moment.

What’s up Annie? he said, looking at me with those seductive eyes of his that made me want to melt.

I shook my head. I couldn’t let myself be taken in by his charms. Listen, I can’t do this. I can’t do anything. Understand?

No, he said honestly. And from the expression on his face, I could tell he really didn’t understand.

It was so embarrassing. I really didn’t want to say it. Also, I didn’t want him to dump me out of the car right in the middle of God knew where. I was just barely nineteen years old, having my birthday only about two weeks before and…

Look, I’ve never done this before. I brushed my light brown hair out of my face and adjusted the top of my dress he’d tried pulling down.

His eyes went wide. You mean you’re a virgin? His mouth hung open after uttering the words.

I looked away, my pale cheeks turning a deep red. Yeah. I’ve never even… My voice trailed off.

What? he asked, leaving back in his seat, but not taking his brown eyes off me. His voice sounded very understanding and consoling, but his face still revealed his shock. Have you ever kissed a guy? Besides me, that is.
