About this ebook

It started when it was foretold that eight children would become the protectors of the planet Chrystalina and the guardians of the special powers of the Amulet. What was not revealed was that the Amulet was not whole and that fact alone would have a great affect on the future. As it had also been foretold the planet Jerico came to invade and conquer Chrystalina. With the invasion two other children, who had just become the guardians of the Amulet and its powers, were revealed and those two newcomers were to become the rulers of the powerful Jerico Empire. The guardianship of the Amulet created a bond between the ten guardians and an unspoken alliance between the two planets.
As a result of this alliance the children of Jerico stopped the attack and called a retreat, intending to leave Chrystalina in peace. Peace was not lasting, however. A rebellion against the children of Jerico, now the Emperor and Empress, was declared. The two children called desperately to the children of Chrystalina for help. Together the ten children fought to defeat the rebellion but it was too strong and eventually they concluded that for the moment staying on Jerico would be fatal. But the rebellion no longer wanted to chase the young rulers away, they wanted them out of the way for good.
After a near fatal escape, the arrival of a couple of additions to this small family of guardians and several twists of fate not only turned the tables on the Rebellion but created an even stronger bond among the protectors of the two worlds. The Rebellion was sent on the run. But is having the enemy in hiding any less dangerous to the...

    The Children Of The Amulet

    Chrystal Bradford

    Co-Founder of Chystalina

    Chapter 1

In her new home on Chrystalina, Empress Andriana Mackensie-Bradford quietly lay back in her bed trying not to disturb the figure sleeping beside her. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the silence for nearly a whole minute. Suddenly a child began to cry.

Please give me a few minutes of peace, Andriana said sitting up again but a hand held her back.

You go back to sleep, her husband Justin Bradford told her. I'll get her.

They just wont settle down, Andriana said. If it's not one it's the other.

Justin smiled down at his wife.

Now you know what your parents felt like, he said.

He kissed her and left to check on the baby who was screaming herself into a frenzy in the adjoining room. As he picked her up she stopped crying and began to coo softly.

Now that's more like it, he said to his eleven month old daughter. You picked a strange time to cuddle Hope. You're running your mother ragged,

    Baby Hope only babbled.

And you're having fun with it to aren't you? Justin concluded.

Hope smiled and gurgled, then yawned.

Is it time to go to sleep now?

Hope closed her eyes. Justin kissed her and put her back in her crib. Then he went over to the other crib and looked down at the other child who had just opened her eyes.

Go to sleep Victory, he said. The fun is over for the night.

Victory yawned and closed her eyes again.

Good night sweetie, Justin whispered, and quietly left the room.

Andriana turned over as Justin got back into bed.

    Are they asleep? Andriana asked.

Yeah I think they're down for the night this time, Justin said. I told them their mother needs her beauty sleep.

    Goodnight my darling, Andriana said.

    Sleep well Empress.

Justin, the Prime Minister of Chrystalina's government and Andriana, Empress of Jerico hadn't been married for more than six months before Andriana became pregnant. Nine months later she gave birth to twin girls. Hope and Victory.

Born on the night of an unscheduled eclipse and anointed with the Amulets of both planets it was evident that Hope and Victory were two very special children. Not only were they princesses of both their mother's planet Jerico and father's planet Chrystalina, but they were Children of the Amulet and the next generation.

The eclipse anointing them was perceived to be a sign that they would be the leaders of the Children of the Amulet of their generation. At six months old the children already showed comprehension beyond their age and exhibited emotions such as a sense of humour which they most enjoyed to bother their parents with at night. Some might say it would be impossible for qualities such as these to be manifested at such a young age but for Children of the Amulet anything was deemed possible.

Now, one month shy of the age of one year, Hope and Victory’s development, both in physical and mental, continued at an impressive rate.

The next morning bright and early Hope and Victory arose but instead of crying they began to chatter loudly in baby language to each other. A few minutes later Justin and Andriana came in.

Good morning girls, Justin said scooping Victory into his arms. How are my little angels this morning?

    GA, Victory replied.

Are you ready to go see Grandma and Grandpa Mackensie? Andriana asked cuddling Hope in her arms. And I know Uncle Andrew is anxious to see you too.

    GIII, Hope squealed.

    Breakfast first Mom, Justin translated

    GA GIII, Hope agreed.

Yes yes don't worry I won't let you starve, Andriana said as they went downstairs.

    GOU, Hope said.

Remember your priorities Mom, Justin translated setting Victory in her high chair.

I get the point you two, Andriana said. I just can't get a break can I Victory?

    Victory looked up and sneezed.

Oh dear, Andriana said. I hope you're not sick.

Calm down An she probably just got some dust up her nose, Justin said.

    Andriana felt Victory's forehead.

She is a little warm Justin, Andriana reported. Maybe I should postpone my trip.

Oh no you don't, Justin said. You haven't seen your parents and brother in a couple of months.

But if she's sick she shouldn't be traveling and you've got enough to do with the government or you'd be able to come.

I can handle it, Justin said. IF you don't think she should go, leave her with me. I can bring her places with me or I know a couple of aunts who would love to take care of her. Not to mention a grandparent or two.

I hate to leave her but I do want to go back home for a while, Andriana said. And I don't want to take any chance if she's sick.

GO. Take Hope with you. Don't worry, Victory and I will be fine, Justin said.

I love you, Andriana said putting her arms around Justin's neck and kissing him. Moments later she turned to Victory. I'm sorry to leave you sweety but I won't be gone for long and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your daddy.

    Victory only sneezed again.

    GIII, Hope squealed.

Yes yes, breakfast, Andriana said turning away to check the babies' bottles.

    * * * * * *

Mary Bradford looked blankly out of her office window at the Chrystalina parliament buildings where her brother was Prime Minister and she was second in command. She knew her sister-in-law was leaving for Jerico today to visit her parents and her brother. She also knew Andrew wanted her to come as well.

It had been almost a year and nine, maybe ten, months before that since Mary had last seen Andrew, face to face, just after the twins were born on Chrystalina. Mary had managed to avoid one on one confrontations with him since then; no one, including Mary herself knew why.

Yet now she found part of herself wishing she was going with Andrew and Andriana. It wasn't that she longed to see Jerico again, she felt totally out of place on the world of technological wonders, as opposed to her peaceful and natural planet.

Andrew was no longer an enemy to her or her planet. He had once been five years ago when he and his sister had first arrived on the planet with orders from their grandfather to oversee a hostile take-over. Now the governments of the planets were allies, especially since Justin and Andriana's marriage and... Mary had spent six months, as an ambassador to Chrystalina, on Jerico overseeing the call-back of the Jaimson Rebellion troops, for her planets peace of mind.

It had taken a long time for Mary to even find herself capable of tolerating Andrew and Andriana, the two invaders, in her mind responsible for the Rebellion threat on Chrystalina.

Now she knew they were allies and they knew they were allies, but she felt Andrew wanted to be more than just an ally to her or just an in-law family member...

Mary's thoughts were broken by a knock on the door. She turned away from the window.

    Come in, She called.

Got a minute for an old friend? Jeremy Mackensie asked.

Mary smiled. Jeremy was one of Mary's two oldest and best friends. Both he and their other best friend Luke Williams worked at the parliament as well as being a member of Justin's private council.

Always, Mary said hugging him. But what are you doing back so soon?

So soon? Jeremy asked. We've been gone for almost a month. Celeste wanted to be back for Hope and Victory's first birthday. She's hoping to get her first glimpse of Jerico finally.

Mary smiled knowingly. Celeste and Jeremy were both Chrystalina-born but had an unusually keen knowledge and interest in Jerico's high tech world.

Less than a month ago Jeremy had married Celeste, granddaughter of the late Prime Minister Ellard Miller. A little under two years ago Celeste and her best friend, Mary's cousin Jessica Bradford, newly married to Luke, had been welcomed as the first uninitiated members of the children of the Amulet secret council.

So are you ready? Jeremy asked.

    For what? Mary asked casually.

Luke told me you were going to Jerico with An, Jeremy said.

Luke, she said looking at the door as it opened slightly was misinformed.

Did I just get you in trouble? Jeremy asked as Luke entered.

No, Luke replied. Till now I thought she was going.

Me stuck with the Empress for three hours in an enclosed space? Mary asked. One of us wouldn't arrive.

Each with a baby to look after you'd make it, Jeremy said.

Not even with the girls, Mary said. Especially not with the girls. They're too young for violence.

Well, Jeremy said I see nothing has changed since I left.

We can recap for you, Luke said. Now how long did she last talk with Andrew?

A year ago, Jeremy said, unless anything has happened in a month.

    Luke shook his head.

    Why is that? he asked.

Over to you Mare, Jeremy said.

Guys just drop it, Mary said. If Andrew really wanted to see me he could come.

He is coming, Luke said. He's picking An up so she can leave her ship here for anyone who might want to follow for the Twins’ birthday.

Just forget it, Mary said. I'm not leaving Chrystalina and that's final. Jerico is...

A strange world to you, Luke recited One where you can't run from him and hide your feelings...

Luke, I mean it! Mary said Neither of you know all the facts. Just drop it.

Jeremy studied her for a moment.

Mare, he said. Are you keeping something from us? Your best and oldest friends? Who hear your thoughts whether we like it or not?

Is Jess going to Jerico for the birthday? Mary asked looking back at the window.

    Mare... Luke began.

I'm not ready to talk about it, Mary said. Keep those thought-reading minds to yourselves. Andrew knows why I haven't contacted him and he hasn't contacted me. We needed time.

So something more happened other than the star cruiser incident, Jeremy said, referring to the first time Mary and Andrew kissed.

Mary nodded without looking at them.

    On Jerico? Luke asked.

Mary nodded then shook her head.

We had a close moment the night Justin proposed to Andriana, she said then her voice trailed off. I need to work it out in my head before I say it out loud. Please let it go.

Sure Mare, Luke said, though it worries me to see you this torn.

Mare, you know we won't judge or scold or tell, Jeremy said.

For heavens sakes, I know that, Mary said. "I've always known that, but how can I tell you what I won't tell myself. As soon as I can, I will share. So are you two going to Jerico or what? Justin is hoping to finish up some work and
