Chapter 1 A Hairy Discovery
A warm bright sunlight twinkles through the autumn leaves as they fall to the ground. Josh and his younger sister Cindy head home from school on this nice autumn day. They decide to take a short cut using the old worn path through Brubaker Forest. Josh and Cindy enter the path to the woods & slow down as the path is much narrower than the sidewalk. The path is full of leaves this time of year. It also has many roots coming up out of the ground so it can be difficult to walk the path at night. As long as Josh and Cindy take their time they can carefully use the path to get home before dark.
Josh and Cindy try to hurry as its getting closer to dinner time and their mom gets upset if they are late for dinner. Josh tells Cindy about some stories he has been hearing from the older boys at school about strange lights being seen above Brubaker Forest. He has heard that something has been seen above the tree tops not far from the path that they are now walking. Cindy tells Josh that the stories are nothing new. She was told by their Grandpa Chinmay who is a Cherokee Indian that there have been sightings of strange lights in the Brubaker Forest for hundreds of years. Grandpa also told Cindy that she should never go into this forest by herself. He would not tell her why, only that she should never be there alone. Cindy was smart enough to follow her Grandpas directions and until now did not need any more details. The kids are enjoying their walk through the forest and the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. As they get deeper into the forest they notice a blue light just above the tree tops ahead of them. Both Josh and Cindy cannot believe they were just talking about the stories of lights in this forest and now they are seeing it for themselves.
Josh: Look Cindy, what is that!?
Cindy: I see it too! It’s a blue light, like I’ve never seen before.
Josh: Yeah, that is really an odd color blue.
Cindy: Let’s check it out.
Josh: Are you sure you want to do that?
Cindy: Yes, I am tired of being afraid and want to know what it is.
Josh: Ok, but I hope we do not regret this decision.
Josh and Cindy head deeper into the woods. As they approach the light, both of them notice it scanning the ground. The blue light is jogging back and forth across the floor of the forest. The light looks like a police search light from a helicopter, except it is a strange color of blue.
The closer Josh and Cindy get to the light the clearer they can see what is producing the light. Josh and Cindy start to run and now are close enough to see more than just the blue light. The kids can make out a shape behind the light. Josh tells Cindy he can see an outline of what looks like a triangular UFO.
Cindy shouts: I can see it! It’s larger than our school!
Josh: I think this was a mistake.
The blue light begins to fade, making the object behind it visible as if whoever is flying the craft wants the kids to see them.
