L. Ron Hubbard

With 19 New York Times bestsellers and more than 350 million copies of his works in circulation, L. Ron Hubbard is among the most acclaimed and widely read authors of our time. As a leading light of American Pulp Fiction through the 1930s and '40s, he is further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to L. Ron Hubbard.

Another excellent story by Hubbard albeit far more violent than some of his other pulp fiction. The relentless pacing, grim villians and stark action make this a worthy addition to your pulp fiction library. Essentially a novella, Hubbard had a flare for endearing characters and wild plots. Hurricane is no exception, but as I mentioned a tad more violent than some of the other stories reprinted by Galaxy Press. But don't let that turn you off - this is pulp fiction action at its best!

This audiobook performance is superb and the story line classic and well written.

I tend to compare it to the movie by Howard Hawks of Hemingway's novel To Have and To Have Not with the bits on avoiding Devil's Island and acts of old classic story heroism.

I enjoyed both a lot but have to tip my hat and give the nod to Hurricane even if Bogey and Becall aren't starring. The edgy characters and story seems more effective in Hurricane and the sound effects of the storm are truly realistic.

The arch-villain goes by the name "The Saint" and the suspense in hoping that that character gets what he really deserves keeps you going till the end. He is damn slippery and conniving.

A quote from Ellery Queen on the jacket:

"One of the great pulp writers, with colorful prose, lively action writing, exotic locales, fresh variations on standard characters and situations and well-constructed plots."
