About this audiobook

It is time for Dillon Mitchell to start living again.

Since the death of her wife three years ago, Dillon had buried herself in her work. When an invitation arrives for Tiffany Daniels’ exclusive birthday party, her best friend persuades her to join them for the weekend.

It’s not the celebration that draws her but the location. The party is being held at the Whitaker Estate, one of the hottest tickets on the West Coast. The Estate once belonged to an eccentric survivalist, whose family converted it into a trendy destination while preserving some of its original history.

Surrounded by a roomful of successful lesbians, Dillon finds herself drawn to Skylar Lange, the mysterious and elusive bartender. Before the two can finish their first dance, a scream shatters the evening. When the party goers emerge from the underground bunker, they discover something terrible has happened at the Estate.

The group races to try to discover the cause of this upheaval, and whether it’s isolated to the Estate. Has the world, as we know it, changed forever?

Interesting story but not particularly fulfilling (yet)
This is a really interesting story and I want to know where it is going. It ends on a cliffhanger, which I probably should have been expecting, but didn't. I listened to the audiobook. I found the narrator good, for the most part, but for some characters, she really had a robotic way of speaking their dialogue, and in the narration she emphasized words in a way that felt off to me. I would listen to books narrated by her in the future, but I probably wouldn't seek them out.

In the book, I liked the characters and the premise, but I wish more had gotten resolved by the end of book one. And I really don't know where the story is going. I was hoping for more emphasis on surviving in the aftermath, and less emphasis on what happened. This author has a good imagination and interesting plots, so I will probably at least start book two and see where it's going. But books that end in cliffhangers really piss me off. There are ways to continue a series without a cliffhanger in each book, by resolving some aspect of the story but still leaving lots of story to be told. This one at least gave us resolution of one situation, but not much else, and the ending was creepy.
