About this audiobook

As fashion designer to London’s elite, she had an eye for detail and a flare for the dramatic. But there’s nothing stylish about her cold-blooded murder.

With the social season just around the corner, the women in Cleo’s family are having new outfits made by the most sought-after designer in the city. Madame Poitiers is bold, self-absorbed and not French, despite her claims.

When Cleo stumbles on her dead body in the salon, she is in a unique position to gather clues and speak to witnesses. But she doesn’t expect to find Harry Armitage’s business card in Madame’s possession. What is the alluring private detective’s connection to the victim? And why is he avoiding Cleo?

As she peeks behind the veil of lies, Cleo uncovers the secrets Madame Poitiers tried to hide. But which secret led to her murder? And which one of the suspects turned the fashion icon into a fashion victim?

I'm not much for writing reviews but I really do love this series. The characters are fun and well-developed, the mysteries are well-plotted, something I find is often skimped on in cozies, and the pacing of the will-they-won't-they-of-course-they-will is just right. It's the perfect blend of fluff and substance, the kind of book made for rainy days and overstuffed chairs. If you've read the other books in the series, you'll like this one. If you haven't, then pour yourself your cozy beverage of choice, pick a cozy spot, and go back to book one.

Part of me would love to see this adapted for the small screen but I don't know that Hollywood would do the source material justice (though the UK might, think Miss Scarlet and the Duke). So for now I'll just (im)patiently wait for the next installation in the series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series, unlike some historical novels, the characters are relatable and likeable and the mysteries arent easy to solve. The twists are fun and the romance bit isnt nauseating. All in all its a very fun listen. Also may I add that the narator is great to listen to.

This serious is an enjoyable, light hearted bit of storytelling. But I must admit my primary reason for picking these up was Marian Hussey and her wonderful narrations.
