He was the last man she needed, but the only one she wanted.
Orlando Holt has never assassinated a woman before. The lovely, feisty Lady Lynden will be his first. She’s supposed to be a vicious murderess, but when Orlando begins to have doubts, he sets out to discover the identity of the person who hired him. What he learns will turn his world upside down, and propel him headlong into love with a woman who’s immune to his charms.
Twice widowed by the age of twenty-four, Lady Susanna Lynden has had enough of charming men. Her last husband knew all the right things to say to get her to the marriage bed…then made her life miserable. Money may be scarce and her house falling down around her, but the exotic fruit from her orange trees will keep poverty away. Except someone is thwarting her at every turn. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I liked the premise of the story and have listened to other CJ Archer series before, so I was quite looking forward to The Assassins Guild. I am sorry to say that I am terribly put off by the whole production of the audiobook. There are two narrators, one for the male and one for the female perspective. While this is quite common in audiobooks and the male voice and style of narration is actually pleasant, the female voice is… not. Her style has a rather artificial quality to it, which, for me, just takes all the fun out of listening to the narration. Furthermore, and this is my main peeve, every male character is voiced by the male narrator even while we’re looking at events from the female protagonist’s perspective. And vice versa. Which I found to be quite disruptive when one is trying to immerse oneself in a story. I couldn’t make it through the second chapter. Maybe I’ll be reading the books at some point, but these audiobooks are not for me, since the same pair of narrators did the complete series.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Started slow, halfway through it picked up. The last half was good.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Terrible narration! Too painful to listen to for even 1 chapter. A shame because I think the story might have been quite good.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I very much wanted to like this book, as I am a big fan of many of CJ Archer’s other series(Specifically the Glass and Steele series, what has come out from the Glass Library series so far, and the Cleopatra Fox series), but this one was awkward and not to my liking. It felt quite slow in the progression of the story line and the development of the characters. Another thing that I found to be a big turn off was how the love /romance scenes were played out. In her other books CJ Archer keeps things quite classy, still suggestive, but tends to lean more towards closed door and has a build up of the characters relationships and development so that you fall in love with them and find yourself endeared. In this book, the love scenes are very base and coarse in nature. I, personally, also found it childish that the word c*ck was used so many times in the same one or two paragraphs. I got more than halfway through, but found it wasn’t worth the time to finish. Suffice it to say, this series is not for me. But I still highly recommend many of Cj Archer’s other books
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A solid Ok from me. It wasn’t CJ Archers best work. It was a little drawn out and lacked the activity and dimension that her books usually have. Still worth a read if you like her writing though.
The narration is slow… it seems better at 1.2x or 1.5x. Other reviews have complained of the female narrators voice- I thought she was good as long as it was sped up. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5CJ, is a great writer. The books just captures your attention. This book alone grabbed my attention to the point I could feel emotions that were being portrayed. Awesome book and usually I like to read more supernatural/suspense type novels.
