Why is the comparatively boring Great Gatsby so famous and I'd never heard of this masterpiece before? The characters are so much more compelling and the style so much more snappy and ironic.

In my opinion, I think it's even better than The Great Gatsby. (Translated from Spanish)

At the level of the much more famous Great Gatsby.
I loved it, it took me a long time to get it, I read it on iBook in 2015, I signed up at North bookstore (they always find everything for me) and finally in 2016 they called me to say they had it. So I don't know if it's in stock today.
If you find it, buy it!
The descriptions of all the characters, both main and secondary, are fantastic. They say you have to write about what you know, and Fitzgerald was the right one to portray the miseries of the upper class.
A book where the protagonists, young, beautiful, and rich, seem to only want to escape from themselves.

    Highly recommended.

I'll leave you with a small quote:

“Beautiful things grow to a certain height and then they fail and fade off, breathing out memories as they decay…”

“Beautiful things grow to a certain point and then go downhill until they disappear, exhaling memories as they crumble.”

(I’m leaving you the quote in English not to be snobbish but because I think the translation doesn't quite do justice to the original text.) (Translated from Spanish)
