- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Brilliant story and spectacular performance! Thomas Hardy is not known for the beauty and ease of happy endings, but this one cannot be missed. Our hero, Gabriel Oak, stays a firm foundation for our difficult and tragic heroine Bathsheba. The villainess Sergeant is enough to try our souls, but goodness prevails. Thomas Hardy’s humor was quite a surprise to me as the story unfolds irresistibly. The performance is astonishing. It is amazing how a brilliant performance can open our hearts two characters, helping us love them, hate them, suffer with them… With bravado does Joe Jamison astonish and delight.
