Lucy Maud Montgomery

L. M. (Lucy Maud) Montgomery (1874-1942) was a Canadian author who published 20 novels and hundreds of short stories, poems, and essays. She is best known for the Anne of Green Gables series. Montgomery was born in Clifton (now New London) on Prince Edward Island on November 30, 1874. Raised by her maternal grandparents, she grew up in relative isolation and loneliness, developing her creativity with imaginary friends and dreaming of becoming a published writer. Her first book, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908 and was an immediate success, establishing Montgomery's career as a writer, which she continued for the remainder of her life.

On the occasion of the centenary of the publication of this novel, a group reading of this book has been organized, which I joined without hesitation. I did not know the work of the great author Lucy Maud Montgomery until this summer, when I am enjoying Anne of Green Gables with my mother.

I am not going to talk about Anne, who many of you may already know; however, if she captivated you, Emily will trap you from the very first moment.

We encounter a girl who loses her father and moves to New Moon, her spinster aunts' house, after her large family decides who will take care of the orphan to provide her with a proper education and life. And that Murray family is not to be underestimated.

Emily is a girl who, from a very young age, knows her vocation clearly and, within her possibilities, with overwhelming enthusiasm, embarks on her short life to achieve her purpose, facing the ups and downs that come with starting something. Compliments at times, disappointments at others, and the most self-criticism.

And as we witness this development in the girl, we live alongside her the stories of her rigid family, her unique friendships, and the curious neighbors of Prince Edward Island.

They say that in Emily we can find many similarities to the author's life. I have certainly loved it, and I invite you to enjoy it, and if it captivates you, continue the trilogy of this great character. (Translated from Spanish)

The book EMILY OF NEW MOON, the first novel of the trilogy written by LUCY M. MONTGOMERY, was the first novel I read a year ago. I didn't know what to expect from this sweet and rebellious girl who, due to life's circumstances, went to live with her aunts and cousin JIMMY. Her adventures and the fairy world surrounding her caused me various emotions at many moments: sadness, happiness, surprise, etc. I love this novel; it is full of adventures, mysteries, and many more things. It is a highly recommended book. (Translated from Spanish)
