I thought the book was pretty pretentious to claim that it can change lives when I first picked it up. I still think it's a little pretentious, but I have to admit that this book does, in some ways, change my life. There were things about the book that I didn't necessarily like but I loved the overall message. There were times when I felt that the book was going over my head, over my understanding of the world around me. I feel that I need more experience with eastern thinking/Buddhism - something that I'm coming to understand embodies many of the lessons in this book. I think different people may take away different things from this book. I'm taking away a desire to really absorb the world around me, and to let go.; to let emotions come but not to be hijacked by them. I think this book could have been a five star easily but while I connected with the messages and lessons to be learned, I did not connect with the story. I'm glad it found it's way into my hands however. While some of these messages I already knew, having them again with others to accompany them, brings it home for me. every once in a while everyone needs a reminder of how to live life.1 person found this helpful

I have read this book every few years for the past 20 years. A good friend of mine recommended it and I will forever be grateful for it. It’s not a self help book, it’s not a step by step guide, it’s a way of looking at the world. It’s the only book that never leaves my nightstand book pile. Excited to listen to the audiobook version for the first time! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I first read this book in in a college sport psychology class in 1995 and just completed it for the 7th or 8th time since then, but this time via audio. EVERY time I read this, the words have stretched me beyond my current reality and state and I’ve been awakened further to finding that unreasonable happiness thru LOVE. Love Always Wins! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

Great book, but in a context of opening eyes, the movie is better. With a tagline of ‘a book that changes lives’ I would expect some changing and steps to change. But no. Maybe if you hyper-analyze some lines here and there something can be created and discovered by yourself. But not with the help of the book. This is a fiction, not self help.
And a lot of what is said for being ‘true’. Shouts and screams untrue.
To be honest I’m disappointed. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This is a reread from several years ago. It’s bizarre at times, with the main character/author’s teacher’s magical powers and bizarre behavior. The story is sometimes funny, with the teacher’s tricks and jokes, and has powerful imagery with the dreams the teacher induces. The story is overall very sweet. Great for reflection on your own life and has a powerful message for everyone. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

This book had me really conflicted. There were times when I hated it for its style and its oversimplification of big ideas. But there were also times when I loved it for its accessibility and for its descriptions of Berkeley (a town where I lived for 4 years).
Hard to recommend unreservedly without knowing another person's taste in books, but overall I enjoyed it. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I found out about this book from Tim Ferris and many of the people he interviews have recommended the book as well. While it’s a bit dated now it is a great story. Great way to get motivated and inspired. I followed the author Dan Millman and listened to him tell the story of the book and his life. I would highly recommend this book. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I personally was not impressed with the book, it seemed like a bad rehash of various books on eastern philosophy. This book might be a good read for people who would like to be introduced to eastern philosophies.
