About this audiobook
An Amazon Charts and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling series.
They’re hunting a killer so silent, so invisible, that his unspeakable crimes are the only proof he exists.
A car submerged in a remote pond. The bodies of two girls strapped into their seats. The mystery of their mother, vanished without a trace, leads Gwen Proctor and Kezia Claremont into dangerous territory.
On the surface, Gwen’s life is good—two children approaching adulthood, a committed partner, and a harrowing past dead and gone. But that past is attracting the attention of someone invisible…and unstoppable. Trouble’s just beginning. So is the body count in this backwoods Tennessee town.
As threats mount and Gwen’s hunted by an enemy who pulls all the strings, Kezia has her back. But working to solve these vicious and unreasonable crimes will expose them both to a killer they can’t for the life of them see coming.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I listened to all the other books in the series and enjoyed this book as well. This one I found Gwenn to be less annoying than in the other books. It focuses more on her and no so much all the other drama of her life. It was also nice to see Kezia in this story, I like her character, she is feisty lady.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's still solid 5 stars but for some unexpected reasons I couldn't connect with this book the same way as first 4. Probably because the story line feels like is starting to repeat. I know there is a new book out there but I think I need to have a break....
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful, as always! If you don't normally read the author's notes at the end, you MUST for this book. Sorry, no spoilers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let me just take a minute to catch my breath. AMAZING! Would we expect anything else from Rachel Caine? My heart is beating out of my chest. This series is spectacular. A thrill a minute. Don't miss this last book in the series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5These books are so dark but immensely readable. You can gobble then down in a few hours although they may give you nightmares. Sadly Rachel Caine recently died so there will be no more. I really enjoyed this series and her YA fantasy "The Great Library" and she was very prolific but her other series seem to be mostly urban fantasy which I am not a fan of.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Heartbreak Bay by Rachel Caine5th and final book in the Stillhouse Lake series. Thriller. Best read as part of the series in order. Gwen and Detective Kezia investigate a horrific death when the focus is directed back at them. Pushed into a corner with no options. OMG, I get why they are so mad. This psycho is manipulative. And doesn’t care who is hurt or how, to get what he wants. A gripping and suspenseful thriller. A must read book for the series lover. A must read for anyone that likes the psychological thriller series. I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased multiple copies to share.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Heartbreak BayStillhouse Lakeby Rachel CaineThis book gave me a dreary vibe from page one. Something ominous was going to happen any minute, every minute, I just felt it. That's the mindset Caine easily put me in. I was terrified for the PI, the cop, for the babies strapped in the back of the car, for everyone that was investigated or interviewed. This monster, this mastermind, was pure evil and was pulling strings that was causing serious damage. Both of the main families were terrified but despite that, these touch as nail gals were determined to catch this monster or die trying. Which they each almost did! This was a study in suspense! Although I did figure out who it was before the end I didn't figure out why. I was a bit disappointed in the end, there were sections I thought was overboard. I also didn't understand exactly the "why" so much to really make it fit well. I certainly enjoyed it! It was a tense read! Certainly recommend!I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read the book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This final book in the Stillhouse Lake series has Gwen, Sam and the kids located in Knoxville and trying to lead a more normal life. The kids are in school; Sam is back teaching piloting and preparing to become a commercial pilot again. Gwen is working as a private investigator. But the enemies who forced the family to move haven't gone away. An old wanted poster that spotlights Gwen and her kids is circulating again. Gwen receives another letter from her deceased ex-husband Melvin Royal that really upsets her. Sam gets a phone call from a newspaper trying to confirm details in an obituary for Gwen that someone called in.Meanwhile back in Sillhouse Lake, Kezia is called to the scene when a car is discovered in a pond with two small children strapped in car seats and drowned. The mother is missing and it isn't known if she's a kidnapping victim or is she deliberately murdered her children. Kez is especially engaged in finding answers because she has recently found out that she is pregnant. When the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation sweeps in to take over the case, Kez asks Gwen to help her with her own investigation of the crime. It quickly becomes apparent that the missing mother was keeping secrets of her own with a string of name changes and suspicious deaths behind her. This story is told from three viewpoints; Gwen, Sam, and Kez all narrate their parts of the story. The story is filled with tension and has a really, really creepy villain. Fans of psychological thrillers won't want to miss this one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5From Wikipedia -"Rachel Caine was the pen name of Roxanne Longstreet Conrad, who was an American writer of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and horror novels. " Unfortunately, Ms. Caine passed away on November 1, 2020. "This is the second time (for me) that an author of a long-running series has passed away while in the middle of the series. Sadly we will never know now if Gina/Gwen will have finally escaped the notoriety that has dogged her ever since the world finds out that her late husband was a serial murderer. In this book, problems with Gwen's past crops up once again, and it seems that these problems will include Kezia this time. I found that reading this book from both Gwen and Kenzia point of view was interesting. Also, learning more about Kenzia and her personal life was fascinating. All in all, this was an excellent book that leaves you somewhat lacking at the end. I also felt a tad frustrated that the antagonists were using the same tropes that were used at the beginning of this series. However, I think that many things would have been cleared up had we not lost Ms. Caine.Remember - if you have Kindle Unlimited, you may read this series through KU.*ARC supplied by the publisher, the author, and NetGalley.
