About this audiobook
The #1 New York Times bestselling author and the Edgar Award-winning author are back with a new novel featuring Kendra Michaels—hired gun for both the CIA and FBI.
It’s been four months since the events of Sight Unseen, and Kendra Michaels is obsessed with trying to track down serial killer Eric Colby. Despite his apparent execution at San Quentin, Kendra is convinced that Colby is still alive. The trouble is, she can’t prove it. Even her razor-sharp powers of observation, honed while blind during the first twenty years of her life, have gotten her nowhere. So no one believes her.
Then out of the blue she gets a call from the Sheriff of Olancha, California, about a young woman being held on a drunk and disorderly charge who lists Kendra as her emergency contact. It’s Eve Duncan’s sister, Beth Avery, who after being wrongfully institutionalized for five years has been living on the road and trying to figure out her life. Kendra can identify, having gone through a similar period of self-discovery after gaining her sight, and she takes Beth home to San Diego with her.
But the murder of a police detective who had once very openly crossed swords with Kendra is about to complicate her life even further. She visits the crime scene in search of anything that might provide a link to Colby and instead finds evidence that links the crime to her. Finally Colby’s master plan becomes clear: he is framing Kendra for a brutal cop-killing.
Suspicions mount along with the body count, and Kendra is thrust into spine-tingling pursuit to clear her name and find the killer no one believes exists anymore. Beth joins her on her quest, and agent-for-hire Adam Lynch soon follows. And they get help from another friend anxious to repay her debt to Kendra…none other than Eve Duncan herself.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This one kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put it down. Kendra Michaels is the only person who thinks convicted serial killer Eric Colby is not dead, even after his execution. She has a hard to time convincing others until Eric starts a cat and mouse game with her by framing her for murder. With the help of her friend Beth and some others, she tries to get him before he gets her. This is the third novel in this series and I have to go out and read the first two! Iris Johansen has yet to fail this reader.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed this Kendra Michaels story. This is the third in the series and I think the best so far. The story picks up after the execution of Eric Colby, the serial killer in the previous novel. Kendra insists he is alive and she is being ridiculed in the press because of this insistence. No one believes her.
Eve Duncan's newly found sister, Beth, makes a comeback in this story and plays an integral role as well as computer geek Sam. FBI special agent, Griffin, who does not believe Kendra about Colby is brought into the story when a reporter is killed and trophies from Colby's murders are left at the scene. When Kendra is contacted via her computer by Colby she panics and brings in Sam. Of course Lynch is also around to help out. With this eclectic group of friends, the police and the FBI a hunt for Colby begins. There is a race for the clock when he kidnaps a police detective and eventually kills him. When he grabs Beth, Eve Duncan makes an appearance in the story. With all these people pulling for Kendra, how can she not catch up with Colby again. Lots of twists and turns, suspense and surprises. I will definitely look for the next in this series. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A great thriller, with characters that come to life, could become a unbelievable Hollywood movie plot if it hasn't already been made. It begins when a serial killer is being executed by legal injection by the state of California, but the convicted killer "Eric Colby" somehow fakes his death during this procedure and escapes San Quentin Prison. The main person that's responsible for his conviction "Dr. Kendra Michaels" is now obsessed with capturing him, but this is an adventurous journey that keeps your mind racing across the pages keeping you on the edge of your seat till the final page.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Here is what grabbed me about this book. I could never tell if the people that Kendra surrounds herself with while she is solving crimes are in on it with the killer or are they true friends and colleagues? Any one of these folks is portrayed as suspicious. When Kendra hair is found in the shower at a murder scene, how did it get there? For a moment I was thinking that her friend who lives upstairs and is frequently in Kendra's place could have planted it. And the guy who is mister smooth. jet setting around as a consultant to assist with kidnappings, etc. is suspicious also. Is he on the level or is he helping the serial killer? It's a very fast and exciting read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kendra Michaels is attempting to convince police officials that the serial killer who helped send to his execution has escaped. Frustratingly, Kendra feels that Eric Colby staged his death with the help of the medical doctor in charge of the execution. She can't prove it because soon after the execution, Colby's body was cremated. Not long after, the doctor and his wife were found murdered. This compelling page turner continues as Kendra is asked to consult in a murder case and sees the victim posed in a position in the same manner of Colby's other victims. Then a reporter who humiliated Kendra is found murdered and there is DNA evidence that points to Kendra. It becomes clear that Colby's goal is to set Kendra up.The mother and son authors Iris and Roy Johansen write with clear dialogue and the action moves along in a nonstop manner.Kendra is an admirable character. She was blind at birth and it was only twenty years later that a medical procedure enabled her to see. Perhaps due to that, her other senses are heightened. We follow the killer as he taunts Kendra and plays a deadly game while we await the inevitable confrontation. There are a number of surprises and there are times that the reader wants to shout, "don't go there" or "look in the back seat" but overall, I enjoyed this novel and recommend it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5FBI consultant, Kendra Michaels suspects Eric Colby is still alive; that he wasn’t actually executed at San Quentin. Even in her dreams, he’s alive and he’s a demon. She was once blind from birth, but a medical procedure made it possible for her to gain her sight. Now, she has the enhanced capabilities that most blind people inhabit within their other senses, and with her eyesight, she is more than a little observant. She derives at conclusions quicker than Sherlock Holmes. She had been the one to put Colby away before. But, judging by the more recent crime scenes, they are not copy-cat, they’re too perfect. This killer doesn’t leave any clues behind unless he wants you to find it. And now, he’s playing games with Kendra. He killed a reporter that had words with Kendra, and he’s set it up to appear as if Kendra killed her. The authorities begin to suspect her.Kendra gains help in a very unlikely place. Her best friend’s daughter, Beth, was in a bit of trouble. She’s small in stature, but through her martial arts, managed to put down a six-foot bully. Kendra pays her bail and now Beth is insisting on helping Kendra with this case. Against her better judgement, Kendra relents. The plot is extremely well written. There were several secondary characters that I also liked very much. All characters were well-defined and credible. The action is not continuous, but sufficient for this very suspenseful mystery. Kendra as the heroine is just different and unique enough to make the reader want more. It is the third in the Kendra Michaels series, but I had no problem with reading it as a stand-alone. Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Kendra Michaels has developed her powers of observation to the degree that she routinely sees things others never notice, a skill that keeps her in demand with law enforcement agencies. Instrumental in closing the Eric Colby case, she now believes that the serial killer everyone watched being put to death in San Quentin is actually alive . . . but she has no proof. Shortly after she is blindsided by a reporter who publishes an unflattering story about her, the reporter is found murdered, and all the evidence points to Kendra as the killer. Can she prove that Colby is behind the murder before he strikes again . . . before she becomes his next victim? The twists and turns in this newest Kendra Michaels thriller will keep readers page-turning far into the night as Kendra and her friends race to stop the serial killer only she has recognized. Readers will appreciate the good characterizations and swiftly-moving plot; Eve Duncan fans will be delighted with her appearance here.Highly recommended.
