About this audiobook
“Can I interest you in saving America?”
That’s the text message Peter Fallon receives from a Wall Street bigwig. It’s not a challenge he can turn down, especially since the country is in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The stock market is wobbling. The Chinese have stopped buying our T-bills. If we don’t get control of our deficit, our economic future looks grim.
But all may not be lost. Hidden somewhere in New York City is a box of 1780s bonds with a face value of ten thousand dollars, part of a series of bonds called New Emission Money. The Supreme Court is about to decide if these bonds still have value. If the decision is yes, those ten thousand dollars, at 5 percent interest, will be worth a very pretty penny.
A lot of very pretty pennies.
Suddenly, their race against time becomes a race through time as Peter and Evangeline track the stories of New Yorkers whose lives have been changed by the bonds. They’ll confront frightened booksellers, heartless businessmen, former flames, renegade treasury agents, and the Russian mafia…and all the while they unravel the thrilling and inspiring origins of the City of Dreams.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Struggled but had to give up as I lost interest half way through the book. I will try previous books in the series because I like the concept and the characters
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I continue to be enamored of the Peter Fallon series, although this one is not my favorite of the bunch. The story centers on New Emission Bonds, issued by the young United States to finance their war for independence. As usual, the history was woven into the current-day mystery in a manner I found both appealing and seamless. However, I found the current-day mystery to have a few too many threads and had a bit of trouble keeping track. I also admit that my imagination is stretched a bit too far when an object lost for over 200 years is found by two groups at the same moment. The relationship between Peter and Evangeline was given a lot less ink than in some of the other books, and I missed that.I've given this one four stars, and I will continue to look forward to more in the Peter Fallon series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I just finished this trilogy - Harvard Yard (Boston), City of Dreams (New York) and The Lincoln Letter (Washington). All three are Peter Fallon mysteries so they have a present day mystery dealing with a historical document that he is searching for. The historical vignettes are just wonderful so that you learn the history of the cities during various periods of time up to the present. They were quite enjoyable, and even though I moved through them slowly, I truly loved them.
