About this audiobook
The 14th in the Mrs. Pollifax series, Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled joins its predecessors as a delightful source of entertainment and suspense. After all her harrowing adventures in various parts of the world, America's most endearing and unlikely CIA agent is bored with her gardening. When headquarters calls with a deadly mission, she's ready with passport in hand. After single-handedly thwarting hijackers on a flight to the Middle East, a young American woman has become an instant celebrity. Following television interviews at the airport in Damascus, she disappears. Was she kidnapped by the terrorists, or is she just hiding? Posing as the girl's aunt, Mrs. P. searches for her "niece" and uncovers a sinister plot that could send shock waves around the world. Part of the anticipation of hearing about Mrs. Pollifax's latest adventures is knowing that narrator Barbara Rosenblat will be part of the package. Both popular in their own right, they make an irresistible team.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Last one in the series... and I have a sad feeling that it will remain the last one. It was published in 2000, Gilman's most recent book was published in 2002, and she's 87. Sigh.
Still, as with all of these, it was fun (and quick) to read. In this installment, Mrs. Pollifax is off to the Middle East again, this time to investigate the possible kidnapping of a young American woman. As usual, inquiries lead to dangerous and adventurous events... - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Believing an American woman has been captured or killed in Syria, the CIA calls on Emily Pollifax and free-lance agent, John Sebastian Farrell to travel to Syria and investigate. Rumors suggest that Amanda Pym is still alive after having been kidnapped six weeks earlier. When Mrs. Pollifax and Farrell arrives in Damascus and checks into the hotel, Mrs. Pollifax finds a message that directs them to go to the Citadel. Things really heat up as Farrell gets taken into police custody. Traveling the following day in a borrowed land rover in search of the shepherd who may have seen Amanda Pym, Mrs. Pollifax and her guide, Joe Fleming, find a burned American passport. Now the question is, will they be able to find Amanda before it's too late?
Mrs. Pollifax a very clever character. She uses her life experience and common sense to figure out what needs to be done. She's the kind of person that others feel comfortable talking with so she's able to use that to her advantage. Some readers may be concerned about the improbability of the novels’ basic premise, but in a genre in which women spies are usually young and attractive, Mrs. Pollifax makes an irresistible, early feminist heroine. Even though she remarries halfway through the series she's content to leave her husband at home and travel the world as a CIA operative.
I've spent the year reading the fourteen volume set of Mrs. Pollifax adventures. She’s a great character and I will definitely miss her now that my time with her is over and the author has died. I highly recommend the audiobooks narrated by Barbara Rosenblat. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book takes place in Syria, and it could have been written more recently. A fun read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Have read all the Pollifax series at this point... they're excellent fun fluffy escape reading. I read very little non-fiction but I make exceptions for the Pollifax books :)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Unexceptional Mrs. Pollifax. I was a little disappointed by this addition to the series, as it seems that almost nothing happens, but being a Mrs. Pollifax fan in general I still enjoyed reading it. It was also a little strange reading it in light of all the recent violence in Syria.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mrs. Pollifax's final assignment for Carstairs is back in the Middle East (and that is not a spoiler - simply a fact that this is the final book in the series). Reunited again with Farrell (who has become a regular!) they have to use their wits and ability to plan on their feet to rescue a kidnapped American. This is a more straight-forward story with no encounters with those "wise" men and women that Mrs. Pollifax often encounters.
