About this audiobook

THEY KILLED THE KING. THEY PINNED IT ON TWO MEN. THEY CHOSE POORLY
There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend.

ABOUT THE SERIES
The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in the captivating Riyria Revelations. Instead of a string of sequels this six-book fantasy series was conceived as a single epic tale divided into individual episodes. All were written before the first was released so that plot elements are intertwined, yet each book has its only story and conclusion.

Eschewing the recent trends in fantasy toward the lengthy, gritty, and dark, the Riyria Revelations brings the genre back to its roots. Avoiding unnecessarily complicated language and world building for its own sake; this series is a distillation of the best elements of traditional fantasy--great characters, a complex plot, humor, and drama all in appropriate measures.

Michael J. Sullivan

Michael J. Sullivan is a three-time New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post bestselling author who has been nominated for nine Goodreads Choice Awards. His first novel, The Crown Conspiracy, was released by Aspirations Media Inc. in October 2008. From 2009 through 2010, he self-published the next five of the six books of The Riyria Revelations, which were later sold and re-released by Hachette Book Group’s Orbit imprint as three two-book omnibus editions: Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire, and Heir of Novron. Michael’s Riyria Chronicles series (a prequel to Riyria Revelations) has been both traditionally and self-published. The first two books were released by Orbit, and the next two by his own imprint, Riyria Enterprises. A fifth Riyria Chronicle, titled Drumindor, will be self-published in the near future. For Penguin Random House’s Del Rey imprint, Michael has published the first three books of The Legends of the First Empire: Age of Myth, Age of Swords, and Age of War. Grim Oak Press distributes the last three books of the series: Age of Legend, Age of Death, and Age of Empyre. Michael has returned to purely self-publishing roots with the release of his most recent series, The Rise and Fall Trilogy. These books are being published in the current schedule: Nolyn (Summer 2021), Farilane (Summer 2022,  and Esrahaddon (Summer 2023). Michael is now writing Drumindor, the fifth book of The Riyria Chronicles. This will return him to the timeline of Royce and Hadrian, two rogues he hasn’t visited with since the release of The Disappearance of Winter’s Daughter in 2018.  You can email Michael at michael@michael-j-sullivan.com.

If you are looking for a book that is action-packed and swashbuckling fun, you might want to check out "The Crown Conspiracy" by Michael J. Sullivan. This is the first book in "The Riyria Revelations" series, which follows the adventures of Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, two thieves who get caught up in a royal conspiracy. Listened to an hour and the writer managed to include women only as tools to make the men look good. So far in my reading, he writes of two stupid, shallow women, two prostitutes and a stupid young girl who a group of robbers are just using as a prop and who can't shoot an arrow. I'm so sick of reading this kind of male-centric junk from someone who can't imagine a world where women are valued for more than their beauty, sexual appeal, or to be made fun of. I stopped reading when he introduced the second prostitute as exotic with emerald eyes and dark hair. Ugh. I expect authors to do better. There's tons of information now about writing better female characters. This work was written in 2009-ish so maybe author was ignorant? Nevertheless, other authors have done much better and I didn't want to waste my time with an author who was born in 1961 but reflects a 1950's point of view. Look up the "Bechel test" (phrase coined in 1985) or better yet - this from Wikipedia too: " Comic book writer Kelly Sue DeConnick proposed a "sexy lamp test": "If you can replace your female character with a sexy lamp and the story still basically works, maybe you need another draft."[62][63] There's a lot of sexy lamps in the first chapter.

Very well written, has made me want to read all the other books in the series!
This book is fast paced, has great characters, and because I listened to the Dramatized Adaptation on Scribd I felt like I was inside the book! Very good acting from a very diverse cast! 5 stars!
The story is very good, the banter was hilarious/real.
Can't wait to start the next book!
