About this audiobook

Coming home was never the plan

After a terrible family fight, pilot Dodge Kingston left home to join the Air Force. A decade later, he’s headed back to the destiny that awaits him as heir to Sky King Ranch. But that’s not all that’s waiting for him at home.

Echo Yazzie is a true Alaskan woman—a homesteader, dogsledder, and research guide for the DNR. After her childhood best friend and former flame, Dodge, fled Denali, she settled into life on the Alaskan range. She’s made her peace with being
left behind—by her mother and by Dodge. And she’s strong enough to live without them.

When one of Echo’s fellow researchers goes missing, Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a rogue grizzly haunting the woods, and the biting cold. What she doesn’t know is that there are more than just the regular dangers of the
Alaskan forests stalking her …

As Dodge sets out to find Echo, he can’t ignore the feelings he still has for her. But will he be able to find her in time? And if he does, is there still room for him in her heart?

This book drug on and on. I'm not interested in bear attacks and the Alaskan wilderness at all, but if that's your thing, you might enjoy this.

Glad I read it, but I'm not sure I'll want to reread. I hadn't realized it was inspy romance, so the sudden "let go and let God" theme, quite late in the book, took me a bit by surprise. It did, however, shake the characters out of their ruts - I was getting quite annoyed at them for, individually and in sequence, misunderstanding and rejecting each other. Some late surprises, especially about Echo's mother, and the weird uncompleted arc about the poachers. Presumably that will complete in later books, though the end of this one has a major setup for the next that's completely unrelated to the poachers (I think!). I do want to read the next.

Title: Sunrise (Sky King Ranch #1)Author: Susan May Warren Pages: 352Year: 2022Publisher: RevellMy rating: 5 out of 5 starsSunrise is the first novel in the Sky King Ranch series which focuses on two main characters, Echo and Dodge. The tale is set in the rugged, beautiful, and dangerous Alaskan wilderness where life is precarious, and the scenery is majestic. While never having been to Alaska, it was easy to get a picture in my mind with the way Susan describes the wilderness in such detail.Dodge is a veteran who for a reason not immediately apparent left Alaska only to reluctantly return when his father’s plane crashed shortly before landing. Dodge’s father has flown his route many times, and the family business of flying cargo may be on the line due to the recent mishap. Dodge and his father have a tenuous relationship that is heightened when Dodge is needed to take over his father’s routes. There is something in the past that has hindered Dodge and his father from growing closer. Audiences will read what happened and see if there is any hope for them.Echo and Dodge have grown up together and at one point Dodge wanted to marry her. Now, as adults, there is still some of the pain from the past that keeps Echo from moving forward in her life. Echo has many talents and is a very loving caretaker of her dogs. She lives with her father who oversees the tracking of two bears released back into the wild. When Dodge returns, Echo isn’t sure if they are even friends let alone if they can capture the love they once shared. But there is another pain in the past that colors her outlook of the present and future. She is a character who is solid, and readers get to see how she faces the challenges of life and soul in the story. When I finished the book, the ending was so compelling that I now cannot wait to read the sequel coming out later this year titled, Sunburst. While there is romance in the book, there is so much more to the story. There is faith, hope, mystery and suspense that will keep people turning pages for hours! The second book focuses on one of the other brothers named Ranger who is a former Navy Seal. The ending of Sunrise will leave you breathless and wishing the second book was already in your hands!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

I loved this story that has action and romance. There is lots of emotions that Echo and Dodge have had to work through since they last saw each other ten years before. I loved the action and the characters and I am looking forward to getting to know Dodges brothers. There were laughs and some tears. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

An exciting read, this novel immediately takes you to the snowy mountains of Alaska with its fantastic descriptions of the setting. I also enjoyed getting to know Dodge and Echo; both have some skeletons in their past and they are wrestling with long-lasting trauma, but I love how the author incorporates the healing power of God’s truth and forgiveness into the story. I also appreciate how the character development doesn’t get lost in the fast paced action. This story has such an engaging plot and I could not put the book down. This book ends a bit on a cliffhanger, so I find myself eager to read the next in the series. What a great start to a new series! Highly recommended!I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

If you like romance mixed with adventure and suspense, you are going to love Sunrise by Susan May Warren. Let me first say that the setting is fantastic! Fans of Warren may recognize Copper Mountain from her Summer of The Burning Sky novella collection. I loved revisiting the majestic Alaskan wilderness through this latest book. The wildness is beautifully depicted — the harsh terrain, the wildlife, the weather. And the independent homesteaders added to the narrative. The book focuses on main characters Dodge and Echo. These high school sweethearts got it all wrong years before, but now are given second chances. Their chemistry is great! Along with the romantic thread, marauding grizzlies, a missing person, and poachers add suspense and adventure. The reader gets to travel by snowmobile, dogsled, planes, and helicopters. Warren adds the spiritual message of God’s care and provision. One truth I especially took to heart was our limited perspective versus the omniscience of God. Dodge and Echo’s love story is wrapped up, but there is an unfinished story line, plus a teaser of what is to come in book 2, Sunburst. I can’t wait!Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to Revell for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)

Thank you to LibraryThing, Baker Publishing Group and Revell for the opportunity to receive an ARC of this book.To start off, this book takes you to the rugged untamed beauty of Alaska. I have always loved Alaska and would love to go there again. It has such an untouched natural beauty that is just magnificent. The main characters, Dodge and Echo, are both dealing with things in their past that have affected the way they think and act and love. The book covers abandonment, betrayal and the journey one must take to forgiveness. We all have been in the place where we need to decide to forgive. I could relate to the struggle because it's not easy to forgive but it is so needed in order to move forward and let go of the anger and hurt. Finally, I really liked the suspense and mystery of the plot. It made it hard to put the book down! Overall, it was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more of this series.

This is a warning. This book will keep you up past your bedtime, and it will leave you in a state of anticipation! Author Susan May Warren has written a wonderful romantic adventure that's left me yearning for the next book in this new series. I've never been to Alaska, so I loved Warren's vivid descriptions of the rugged terrain, the bone-chilling cold, and her suggestion that this place of beauty can also be a place of danger. Sunrise has great characters, thrilling romance, second chances, and the reminder that God is with us at all times. There is also an ending that I didn't see coming. It is captivating Christian fiction, and a fantastic introduction to the Sky King Ranch series!I received an ARC of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

In Sunrise, Dodge Kingston has returned to his small hometown in Alaska following his father’s accident to help him run his bush pilot operation until he’s back on his feet. Still full of bitterness and resentment, Dodge hopes to avoid his ex-girlfriend, Echo Yazzie. But when Dodge gets the call that a pilot is needed to rescue Echo, he doesn’t hesitate. Echo is surprised to see her ex flying in to her rescue, but she’s hopeful that she’ll have a chance to make things right with Dodge, if she can just get him to forgive her. When Echo’s sled dogs start returning home without their sled or their musher, and there’s a rogue grizzly bear on the loose, Dodge realizes what’s really important. It took me a little while to warm up to this book, but after a few quick chapters, I settled in and thoroughly enjoyed the story. It was full of action and unexpected twists. I wasn’t a huge fan of Dodge’s attitude in the beginning, but I really liked him by the end. I liked that he and Echo had a complicated backstory that was way more complicated than just their history together. The action in the story just kept coming, and at the end there’s a little cliffhanger that remains unexplained and unresolved, which I would assume will be picked up in the next book. And I do appreciate that the author wrote a sweet, clean, faith-based romance that was enjoyable for me, and that I would be comfortable recommending to my mother or my daughter. I look forward to the next book in this series. *I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Such a fantastic adventure filled with adrenaline, tender romance of a second chance love, faith-bolstering wisdom, and redemption and forgiveness after a long drought of anger and bitterness. I could not put the book down once I started it. I’ve never flown a plane/chopper, never worked with dogs, never met a wild grizzly bear, and never even visited Alaska but felt like I’ve done all these and more after being ensconced in Echo and Dodge’s world. I’m suspecting that the series will follow Dodge’s two brothers but I’m also hoping it will expand to include more of the uniquely wonderful secondary characters I’ve met along the way in Copper Mountain. Echo is a brave but wounded soul, dragged down by regret and darkness even as she makes a living in the Alaskan wilderness as a guide and protector of wild animals. Dodge is a loyal, steadfast Purple Heart earning former Air Force pilot who also has plenty of regrets but realizes his potential and dream and desperate need to forgive as he comes home and faces his past and future head on. I do so enjoy second chance romance and this one will remain one of my favorites. Mixed in with the romance is Echo and Dodge working to rescue hurt and needy people from snowy and stormy mountain, surviving bear attacks and other natural hazards, outsmarting some evil men with fast-paced action and plenty of suspense. And if that’s not enough, there is a mystery woman whose identity has yet to be revealed…If you’re looking for a great book with unforgettable characters and setting, heart-pounding action and suspense, heart-filling spiritual wisdom, and heart-melting romance, look no further. I’m finishing out 2021 with a bam!I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Sunrise by Susan May Warren introduces readers to Sky King Ranch, home base of Sky King Air Services and the three estranged Kingston brothers. Set in the hearty Alaskan bush, which felt completely foreign to this Florida girl, the narrative captured the beauty of the land with vivid descriptions and Echo’s adoration of the area. Furthermore, the novel’s cover conveyed the enchantment of this rugged, amazing land.If I were to describe Sunrise in one word, it would be tense. The first chapter brings the reader straight into the Kingston family strife. There’s a romantic pull between Echo and Dodge, but both have emotional angst brewing down deep. As the plot progresses, the characters contend with the elements of nature and experience life-and-death moments. While this constant strain held my attention to the story, the plot felt formulaic at times. Fortunately, a thread about the need to give and receive forgiveness seeped into the hearts of the characters and added a nice layer of character development.Sunrise commences Susan May Warren’s Sky King Ranch series. It mentions characters from the author’s other novels, but reads as a stand-alone novel. I love the way the author has created this entire fictional community among her books. Sunrise will likely appeal to Christian romance readers looking for an entertaining suspense novel.Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. I liked this book but I have read other books by Susan May Warren that I enjoyed more. This book did keep my attention and I plan on reading the others in this series. It did keep my attention and there was a good balance of suspense and romance. I would recommend this book and this author.

Great read, can’t wait for the next one in the series. It first peaked my interest because I grew up watching Sky King and although this has nothing to do with that old series it is just as thrilling to wait and see how the rescues will turn out. The characters are real and complex in their unresolved history’s. And there are dogs and bears and a beautiful setting what more could we ask for and then the author leaves a few threads of a mystery dangling for next time…

Sunrise, by Susan May Warren, is book 1 in the Sky King Ranch series. This is a contemporary Christian romance that is filled with action. The writing is so clear it is easy to imagine the surroundings and what is happening. It was easy to imagine the sled dogs running through the snow and feel the tension of flying in bad weather. The suspense is so good I kept reading to see what was going to happen next.I enjoyed the characters of Dodge and Echo. They have a past to deal with and forgive each other to move forward. Having both lost their mothers, they have issues to work through. I also enjoyed the parts of them dealing with father issues. This is a great story and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. This is my honest review.

'You're afraid of God not doing things your way. Stop telling God what you want, and let him work his will in you. You might find answers.'The instant I put down a Susan May Warren book, my heart and head are so full, it's nearly impossible to think of anything else and craft a review worthy of said book. My heart is just so full, totally captivated by these amazing characters and their lives. Warren begins a new series, Sky King Ranch, with this book. Set in the state of Alaska, her descriptions are so incredibly vivid, I can very nearly feel the cold and see with my mind's eye the beautiful vistas in the scenes of the book. The dog sleds, the plane rescues, the cabins, the grizzlies, all seem so real!Dodge and Echo captured my heart with their love that began as children. Makes me want to follow them into old age because this is a forever love destined to never dim one bit. This story was totally satisfying in every way and one I will not forget. And it ends on a note that left me gasping. Perfection. Well done!I won a copy of this book on the Library Thing site. I was not required to leave a review. The opinion here is my own.

This is released Jan 4, 2022.I really enjoyed this Clean Alaskan Romance. There is some violence in this. I received this for free and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given this a 5* rating. The hero is a pilot and the heroine drives a dog driven sled. While both are hurting, this is a second chance story. I found this a very interesting story with a lot of behind the scenes of these two living in a small town in Alaska. There is action, wildlife, and more. This is the second of this author's work I've read, and I was not disappointed. Some may need some tissues handy for this one.

Susan May Warren has penned another wonderful book in Sunrise, The sunrise referred to is in Alaska where all things are wild, beautiful and intriguing. The story of Dodge and Echo is full of love, animals and pasts that are so close it’s scary.Dodge left home ten years ago suffering from a broken heart. Not only did the girl he loved refuse his proposal, she kissed his younger brother! This led to a confrontation and to Dodge leaving while brother was in the hospital.Echo suffers from abandonment by her mother who just took off one day and didn’t return. She didn’t understand it then and certainly doesn’t now. She spends her days thinking of the love that walked away from her. They are both stubborn, love their fathers who both suffer from illnesses and band together to save Echo’s friend and her dog team. With a little help from Above, all may end up just fine. Maybe? I loved the descriptions of Alaska, the plot and the characters. It comes out on January 4th. You should pick it up.

I received an ARC of this book through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers. I've read other Susan May Warren books--and some characters/organizations from those books are mentioned in this one, but you don't have to have read those to read this book. The reality is that if I hadn't received this as an ARC, I probably would have read it at some point. This book is the first one in her Sky King Ranch series. Sky King Ranch is in Alaska and has planes and a helicopter (chopper). It appears to have both regular routes (mail delivery and delivering supplies) as well as being available for emergency call outs (though not in an official capacity at this point). The plot deals with forgiveness and learning to trust God. It also touches on how the actions of parents can affect children (in ways that the parent may not realize at the time). That's mainly the reason the book got a 4 from me. The book started out slowly, and I wondered if I was going to be tempted to give up on it--something I usually don't do on ARCs because LTER requests a review in exchange for receiving the ARC. (It's not required, but it does increase the chance you'll be chosen to receive another book the following month.) Thankfully, the plot picked up after a while, so maybe it was just the "first in the series, have to get some background out of the way" stuff. In any case, about a third of the way through the book, I found it hard to put down. We're told early on that Colt and Dodge are "twins" but I didn't realize that Ranger was also making them triplets. That might have been nice to know sooner than it was revealed. There are some mysteries that don't get answered in this book. Who is the Jane Doe that Dodge and Echo found and what is her story? (Somehow, I think it is connected to the Russian speaking men that were with Idaho.) The teaser at the back of the ARC brings Dodge's brother Ranger back to the fold. We aren't told why an NTSB truck is at Sky King Ranch--unless Ranger now works for them and it just wasn't explicitly stated in the small snippet we get.
