Seven years ago, operative Luke Gallagher vanished to become part of an elite team set on capturing a deadly terrorist. When Luke returns to face those he left behind, their help becomes his only hope of stopping his target's latest threat of an attack that would shake America to its core. Private investigator Kate Maxwell never stopped loving or looking for Luke after he disappeared. But she also never imagined he left her or his life by choice. Now he's back, and together they must unravel a twisting thread of secrets, lies, and betrayal, all while on the brink of a biological disaster. Will they and their love survive, or will Luke and Kate become the terrorist's next mark?

Title: Dead Drift (Chesapeake Valor #4)Author: Dani PettreyPages: 304Year: 2018Publisher: Bethany House PublishersMy rating is 5 out of 5 stars.Luke Gallagher left his friends and his country seven years ago. They never heard from him and had no idea where he was or if he was alive. Now, he has suddenly reappeared in their lives. They discover he has been working undercover for the CIA all this time. He now is tracking an evil man the same one he has been chasing for seven years. This man has a terrorist plot that will kill thousands if not millions, and Luke must stop him. Luke also has plans to apologize to Katie for leaving her high and dry with no word, breaking her heart. Luke dreams of a lifetime with Katie but knows he doesn’t stand a chance of getting back into her good graces. He will do whatever it takes though to keep her safe.Katie Maxwell has never given up on her search for Luke. She has mad computer skills and contacts and has put them to good use. She has discovered Luke is still alive but doesn’t know where he is or what he is up to. She works as a private investigator now. Luke appears out of nowhere and barges back in to Katie’s life. She still loves him but refuses to make herself vulnerable by allowing him to know that. Did God bring Luke back into her life permanently, or is he just here to stop a terrorist and will leave again? This fourth and final novel in the Chesapeake Valor centers around Katie and Luke’s story. There is also an interesting side story featuring Finley and Griffin. I would recommend reading the novels in order as the story of Luke and his disappearance from the Tree House Gang member’s lives is mentioned. The excitement and action in this story are riveting. I liked Luke’s character as he made a huge personal sacrifice for his country, although he thought it a selfish adventure. Even through dangerous and turbulent times, he kept his faith in God.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. This is the conclusion to the Chesapeake Valor series and I was not disappointed. I could not put this book down. I did some laughing and crying. I love how Kate and Luke finally get back together. I am glad they were saved for last. This had twists and turns and lots of suspense. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Book four in the Chesapeake Valor series starts off running and stays that way till the end. Luke Gallagher is finally back with his friends and family, but not as a happy reunion, but to stop a terrorist. I liked seeing how Luke worked as getting back to a "normal" life, while at the same time having to do all he can to keep himself and Kate alive. I have really enjoyed this series and seeing the characters evolve. It will be hard leaving them behind, but look forward to seeing what comes next. I received a copy of the book from the author, the review is entirely my own.

Dead Drift is the thrilling conclusion to the Chesapeake Valor series by Dani Pettrey. This novel includes a dual storyline which adds to it's edge of your seat page-turning suspense. It's a race against time for Luke and Kate to stop the threat of biological warfare while Griffin and Finley work to solve Jenna's murder before the killer strikes again! There's non-stop action, just the right amount of romance, and all questions will finally be answered!!Although it can be read as a stand alone novel, I would definitely recommend reading the others in the series first. This is because one of the things I have come to expect and appreciate from a Dani Pettrey novel are her interwoven characters with complex relationships. If you start with Dead Drift, you'll miss out on some of the characters histories.I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

I can’t believe this book is the end of the Chesapeake Valor series!! And what an incredible ending to an incredible series! The book packs a punch from the very beginning and the adrenaline just ramps up with each page! I could not put this book down (I was glued to my chair, trembling with excitement throughout my reading that my children actually asked me if I was ok.....) and you won’t be able to either once you start the book. The story is fast-paced and the plot, even though there are two parallel plot lines, is well-crafted and executed. There are a whole bunch of twists and turns to the plot that make the story layered and quite delicious! The suspense and action in the story are intense, just like Luke and Kate’s love for each other. Luke is the highly trained black ops agent, capable of completing any mission. Yet he’s broken from having left Kate all those years ago and doesn’t know if he can be forgiven. He also struggles with accepting forgiveness from God for all the job-related actions he regrets. Kate is independent, extremely capable at what she does but hasn’t forgotten her love for Luke. As they reluctantly work together, they become targets of a terrorist and their survival hangs on a balance, even as they try to stop the terrorist from unfurling his plan. Oh, man, I love the whole gang. If you haven’t read the first three books in the series, reading them in order would be helpful to understand all the nuisances in this fourth and last book. But you can still enjoy the book without having read the first three. If you love high-octane romantic suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this book is a must read! I received a copy of the book from the author and Bethany House Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own and subjective.

For fans who have been eagerly awaiting the last installment in Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series, Dead Drift will not disappoint. Full of the action-packed suspense and sizzling romance Pettrey is known for, this novel also offers a satisfying conclusion to several mysteries that have been teased throughout the series. Recommended! All of the characters who have made up the ensemble cast of this series are present in Dead Drift, but this is really Luke and Kate’s story. Separated by years and circumstances beyond their control, they are back together as they hunt down terrorists with deadly intent. In the midst of danger, their love again blooms. I really liked the chemistry between these two characters. But it isn’t just the bad guys that threatens their future — they have to overcome guilt and distrust. They both need to learn that what they really need is to depend more on God. The second plot line that was introduced in book 1 is brought to a very satisfying end, bringing needed closure to more than one family. Both the terrorism thread and the cold case mystery kept this reader guessing and puzzling along with the characters. I felt invested in both stories and could not wait to get to the end. This one is a real page turner!Dead Drift brings to an end the Chesapeake Valor series, and I am a bit sad. It was a great way to get my suspense-fix! For those of you who haven’t yet read it, don’t be surprised if you are spending a few days binge-reading.Recommended.Audience: adults(Thanks to Bethany House for a complimentary copy. A great and fast paced conclusion to this series, and yes we do wrap things up, but maybe not how you thought. If you haven’t read the other books in this series, this one will make you want to, but you can read alone, enough facts are presented. The author gives us some surprises, but boy the book sure doesn’t lack for action and keeps you guessing as to whom will survive to the very end. There are some very sad moments here, and most you will not see or expect. Great job!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.
