- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Title: The Deadly Shallows (Coastal Guardians #3)Author: Dani PettreyPages: 400Year: 2022Publisher: Bethany House PublishersMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars.Noah Rowley is a special agent with the Coast Guard in charge of an investigative team of Coast Guard Agents. His task force is assigned a case involving a mass shooting at a graduation. There are multiple victims, including some of the shooters. Noah’s team puts in long hours to find justice for the innocent victims, as well as punishment for the guilty. The investigation into the shooting also has other crimes that tie in with the shooting, making the discovery of truth very challenging. Noah’s team is the best and they are put to the task, using their skills for good. However, Noah’s heart is at risk as one of the people present at the shooting is Brooke, a Coast Guard Medic, and the woman whom he loves but has promised to himself to avoid. With this case, interaction with her can’t be avoided.Brooke Kesler is a Coast Guard Medic who is attending the graduation of a young woman she has mentored. She is a surviving witness to the mass shooting, as well as the medic who tends to the lone surviving shooter. He whispers something to her right before he is taken to surgery. Brooke has no idea what it means but will soon realize their interaction was witnessed. Brooke now is a target for criminals who will do anything to silence those who know too much. Noah protects her the best he can. Brooke likes having him close, and he is winning more and more of her heart. Does he feel the same? The third book of the series pulled me in from chapter one until about two-thirds through the story. The last third of the book was not as action packed. I thought the story focused too much on romance and not enough on solving a mass shooting. The subplot also was distracting from the main plot for me. I did like the prominence of faith throughout the story. I also enjoyed Austin and Caleb romance. Austin is one spunky lady! I liked how the story was wrapped up, leaving no cliffhangers. I always enjoy this author’s romantic suspense novels and am looking forward to read what adventure she brings to the table in the future.Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a suspenseful romance that you will not want to put down. I loved Brooke and Noah and all the others in their group. I recommend reading the first two books in the series so you know who the other characters in the group are. This is inspirational and emotional. I enjoyed that there was more than one case that was being worked on. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was fun and interesting to read a book set in the area I was born and raised in - Wilmington, North Carolina. It's a historic Atlantic coast city sandwiched between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. There is a lot of water in the area. Historically, the city is pre-American Revolution and played a key role in the Civil War. During World War II it was riddled with military importance. I say this to give an idea why this story about the Coast Guard contingency in the Wilmington/Coastal area is credible in possibility. The story begins explosively with an attack at a graduation ceremony that leave multiple deaths - both civilian and military. The characters leap into action investigating and piecing together the bits of information that soon leads to the conclusion that this is more than a deranged individual out to reap deadly horror.Packed with more than one story line that seem to be separate but in the end the maze leads to centrality. The team of investigators work individually and with cohesive teamwork to determine the who and why and where this deadly criminal activity is headed. The book is a good, clean read with strong moral compass guiding the individuals. There are strong romantic vibes throughout the book with sweet conclusions.I found the story intriguing and fun to envision locales familiar to me.DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is the third and final book in the Coastal Guardians Series, and although it can be read alone, they are all equally great! We are given some cameo's with past characters, and how this all fits together.Yes, this is a page turner, and for me a very fast read, as I needed answers. It begins with a mass shooting, and we are looking for answers! As with everyday life there is more than one story here, and you will quickly be holding your breath, and your heart will be in your throat, will these people you now care about survive, it is questionable!Along with some great suspense we do have some really sweet romance, and when the final page was turned, I really wanted to stay and continue in their lives!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wow! What a wild ride Pettrey takes her readers on in The Deadly Shallows, book 3 in the Coastal Guardians series. This book centers on the mass shooting at a Coast Guard base. The event at the beginning of the book is a bit shocking, but Pettrey handles the subject matter in a sensitive manner. That being said, the bad guys are very, very bad and shadowy. It takes the whole team of investigators, plus some, to uncover the conspiracy behind the crime. I like that about Pettrey’s books — her ensemble cast of characters are always well-developed and integral to the plot. This book centers on Noah, the head of the CGIS unit and Brooke, a medic on the scene, but the reader is in for a treat. Caleb, another investigator with CGIS, and Austin, a private investigator, are also at at the center of another investigation. You get two crimes to solve and two sizzling romances in one novel! The suspense and danger are non-stop with lots of twists and turns and the chemistry between the main characters is perfect for lovers of romance. The faith journeys of the characters are naturally portrayed too. You really do get a riveting suspense novel with characters to love. While this book is part of a series, I guess you could read it as a standalone, but I would not recommend that. Begin at the beginning if you haven’t already. I just hope the next book is coming soon. Fingers crossed!Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Please, Lord. Carry me - Brooke was sure she could not do this on her own!A very determined killer with even more dedicated law enforcement creates an incredible story that will keep you breathless at times. The sheer number of deaths almost makes you wonder if those who stand for the right will even survive! Add several fascinating mysteries to the mix and you have a story that can only have been written by this fabulous author.Toxic dumping, laser weapons, abductions and more - do they all link together? Is there one big kahuna that is pulling all the strings to these mysteries? The romance element allows the reader a breath or two during this edge of your seat thriller. An early copy of Coastal Guardians Book 3 was received through Bethany House Publishers, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These comments and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an amazing book. It kept my interest from the very first word until the last. So much kept happening that you don’t want to put it down, this is a real page turner. There were two romances going on, the main characters Noah and Brooke and minor characters Caleb and Austin. Along with the romance there is suspense as they try to find who was behind the mass shooting and the contaminated water. I really enjoyed this book.I was given this advanced copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was difficult to decide which drove this story, the romance or the suspense. There was a lot of both. In this book two new couples are formed as they each collaborate on their own case. I am a big fan of Dani Pettrey, but I must say that this is not in my top three favorites of her books, although I enjoyed it enough to feel comfortable recommending it to others. It's just a personal preference for me to have the scales tip a bit more to the suspense storyline than to the romance one. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of The Deadly Shallows from Bethany House without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Deadly Shallows by Dani Pettrey is the third book in her Coastal Guardians series. Coast Guard flight medic Brooke Kesler transports the only surviving gunman from the mass shooting at the Coast Guard base. What he whispers to her puts her life in jeopardy. CGIS Agent Noah Rowley will do his best to protect Brooke, but is his best enough? This was a very fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride. You never knew where the bad guys were going to show up next. It kept you guessing and turning the pages.I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Deadly Shallows is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series. An attack on a Coast Guard base leaves Noah Rowley’s CGIS Team scrambling for answers. But when the investigation is barely underway, Brooke Kesler’s disappearance is almost more than Noah can take. Getting Brooke back, keeping her safe, and trying to unravel the mystery of who carried out these attacks and why turns up one dead end after another. When a lead finally points to another imminent deadly attack, will Noah’s team get there in time to stop those responsible?Deadly Shallows is full of action from beginning to end. I found it exciting and always wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next. There are a few romantic story lines going on in this book. The chemistry between the characters is strong. There are also strong spiritual elements woven into the story, and although this book does have plenty of romance, the author keeps it clean. The book can be read as a stand-alone novel. I have not yet read the first two books in this series, and I was able to understand and enjoy this book. However, I believe I would have had a better understanding of the characters and their dynamics if I had read the first two books prior to reading this book, so that would be my recommendation. But I did thoroughly enjoy reading Deadly Shallows.*I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
