About this audiobook

Johnstone Country. Mountain Man Justice. If there's one thing Smoke Jensen hates, it's a man who fights dirty. And no one fights dirtier than a politician. Especially a lying, cheating, no-good grifter like Senator Rex Underhill. Luckily, with another election coming up, this senatorial snake in the grass has some serious competition: Smoke's old friend, Sheriff Monte Carson. Carson's an honest man, and he's got Smoke's full support. But Underhill's got support, too: a squad of hired guns ready to hit the campaign trail-and stain it red with blood . . . Swapping bullets for ballots, Underhill's henchman make it all too clear that Sheriff Carson is not just a candidate on the rise, he's a target on the run. But with Smoke's grassroots support-and lightning-fast trigger-he manages to stay alive in the race. That is, until Carson's righteous campaign takes a near-fatal turn when the Senator Underhill tricks his opponents, traps them in a mine, and literally buries the sheriff's political ambitions. When the going gets tough, Smoke gets even. When this game turns deadly, it's winner kills all . . . Live Free. Read Hard.

Title: Bloody Trail of a Mountain Man (Mountain Man Series #49)Author: William W. Johnstone & J.A. JohnstonePages: 304Year: 2019Publisher: PinnacleMy rating: 5 out of 5 stars. If you have never read any Johnstone westerns, perhaps now is the time to start! I came across the Johnstones a few years back and never regretted it. In fact, I do their book club every year and it is a joy to read their newest novels that come in the mail. Here we have one of the latest thrillers that take readers back to the Old West with the leading character by the name of Smoke Jensen. Smoke is a man who has traveled the owl hoot trail but is now a law-abiding citizen who has raised a family and owns a ranch called the Sugar Loaf. His wife, Sally, has a kind heart and is a fighter herself whether Smoke is present or not. What an adventure to enjoy reading how the town’s sheriff, Monte Carson, is running for a vacating seat in the Senate. Monte’s past still holds secrets that are revealed when someone from his past comes bearing extradition papers because technically Monte is in trouble with the law. There is a youngster in the tale by the name of Leo whose past includes growing up in New Orleans. Now the young man finds himself in trouble when the Jensen family and crew step into help. There is nonstop action in the book, danger that climaxes into an exciting and unforgettable conclusion and a wonderful blossoming romance too! The fun in reading the story is the Jensen family tight bond and how well they treat others whether technically family or not. People will enjoy Pearlie’s wit and the jesting that occurs between him and a couple of others in the novel.I don’t want to reveal too much about the novel because I don’t want to ruin it for others who have yet to sit and get lost in the pages of the western adventure! So, as the cold descends here on the Midwest, this is one western I had fun reading for hours! I think you will too!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
