About this audiobook

At the advice of her therapist, homicide survivor Harper Reynolds has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for a more peaceful life taking photographs of the natural world. But her hopes for a life surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors are dashed when she inadvertently captures a murder being committed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She flees the scene in fear--and loses the camera. Former Green Beret Heath McKade is a reserve deputy in an understaffed county who has been called in to protect Harper, a childhood friend he is surprised to see back in the area. When Harper learns that the sheriff's department can't find any evidence of the murder she witnessed, she is determined to do what she can to see that justice is done. What neither Harper nor Heath could know is how many explosive secrets from the past will be exposed--or how deeply they will fall for each other. In this suspenseful page-turner, bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard keeps you on the edge of your seat as you discover that uncommon justice lies just on the other side of fear.

I had a hard time getting into this one. It moved along slowly and seemed a bit too wordy for my liking. I did like the plot line of the story, just not the delivery.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions - This story kept me on the edge of my seat and kept my interest throughout the entire book. The main characters each have a troubled past and we learn more about what happened to each of them throughout, as the main plot unfolds. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a love story mixed in.

This is the first book by Elizabeth Godard that I have read. It kept my interest, and I enjoyed it. The premise is that two sisters return to their childhood home in Wyoming to allow Harper to escape from her job as a forensic photographer, and deep-seated memories of witnessing her fathers murder when she was a child. While Harper is photographing nature, she witnesses a murder. Her sister, Emily, a mystery novelist, begs her to return home to Missouri. Harper also reconnects with Heath, her childhood friend, who also experienced trauma as a child, feeling responsible for his mother’s death. In addition to the mystery aspect, there is some romance mixed in with danger. The characters also rely on their faith to help them overcome obstacles. #Always LookTwice #ElizabethGoddard

Elizabeth Goddard has done it again! The intense action begins on page one and it never lets up!! What starts out as a chance to photograph a black bear in its natural habitat at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, turns into Harper Reynolds witnessing a murder being committed. Suddenly, she herself is the murderer's next target and what follows is a story filled with guns, bombs, and intense danger as Harper and her childhood friend Heath McKade desperately try to discover who the killer is. Nothing seems to go right as they try to stay ahead of this unknown person and there is also the extreme tension that comes from Harper and Heath's personal connection during their struggle to stay alive. Even though there are so many obstacles to overcome, they find themselves reviving a friendship that is twenty years old. 'It was as if an invisible force that spanned time and distance had brought them together again.' (p. 184)Author Elizabeth Goddard demonstrates once again her ability to increase heart rates and affect emotions and it isn't just from the adventure and danger. It is apparent that Harper and Heath are physically attracted to each other but their past history and the hurts they have both endured seem to be roadblocks to a future together. Their efforts to stay alive and their attempts to forget the past allow Goddard to showcase the importance of faith and prayer in both of their lives."God, have you brought me through all of this only to die here and now?" (p. 346)If you love mystery and adventure and if you enjoy romantic suspense with a faith-filled message, you will want to read Always Look Twice, the second book of the Uncommon Justice series. Elizabeth Goddard proves why she is such a well-loved author!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher but a positive review was not required. These are my own thoughts.

I truly enjoyed reading “Always Look Twice”, and can’t imagine how I didn't discover this series when book 1 ("Never Let Go") came out in February! First off, you absolutely CAN read this and follow everything without having read the first book in the series. I did, and didn’t feel like I was missing anything…the author did an AMAZING job of making sure I had all the information I needed in terms of background.I connected with main character Harper immediately. She comes across as a real person, with unique talents and abilities, as well as unique challenges that stem from her past experiences. Harper is a woman who is aware of her issues, and is actively working to overcome them. The book is set in Wyoming, an area that the author obviously knows well. Her descriptions of the wilderness made me want to visit and see the natural beauty for myself. Harper is a photographer, so we get to see a lot through her eyes and (and the eye of her camera). The author even includes (through the characters' experiences) some helpful tips on staying safe in terms of terrain and wildlife. The romance between Harper and part-time deputy (and full time tourist ranch manager) Heath McKade adds an integral level to the story. When Harper sees something she wasn't intended to, she is in danger, and it's up to Heath to protect her and help solve the mystery. What makes the romance unique is that the two were childhood friends, and very close ones. They helped each other through some difficult times when they were too young to be thinking about romance. They've been apart ever since, and now have the opportunity to reconnect as adults, with no "former enemy" or "failed relationship" dynamic between them to pull them down into trope territory. The mystery itself is also very well written. What Harper initially witnesses provides very few clues. Regardless, she is determined to solve the case. As she and Heath keep pushing to figure out what actually happened, the danger to Harper escalates. What started out as a single, fairly straightforward crime quickly expands to include other acts of violence. Long-hidden secrets from the past are also linked to current events, providing a nice, unifying element to the story. When all is revealed in the end, everything makes perfect sense. The reader was provided with enough clues along the way to feel a part of solving the mystery, but not enough to make the answer obvious. To avoid spoilers, I won't say more, beyond the fact that the ending is satisfying in multiple ways.Five of five slices of American cheese!

“She would embrace being a survivor because she could make a difference for the victims.” It’s funny how sometimes the very thing that we are trying to avoid brings us full circle and we end up coming back to what we tried to leave behind. So begins Elizabeth Goddard’s “Always Look Twice”, which is book two in the Uncommon Justice series but can be read as a standalone. As a suspense fan, I am grateful for authors like Goddard who write within the Christian genre because the darkness of malefaction is equalized and eventually overcome by the light of the Gospel. There is no need to worry about coming across graphic language or details, which goes to show that real life can be depicted in a clean manner while still conveying trauma. After an auspicious opening chapter, “Always Look Twice” consistently delivers spine-tingling moments mixed with romantic overtures. The two main characters, Harper and Heath, are broken individuals with their own traumatic pasts, and the events of this book thrust them together toward an explosive climax. This is a novel of dichotomies, with enough ongoing tension to keep the reader engaged but not overwhelmed. Old and new, the past and the present collide in a growing entanglement. I appreciated the complex psychology of the characters and the multifaceted aspects of their personalities. They are believable, and the romance unfolds tenderly alongside the healing that Harper and Heath experience. In one noteworthy scene, I figured out the identity of the perpetrator. However, I did not deduce the culprit’s motivations or how the story would end, so I feel that the author succeeded in the plot execution. The thread of redemption echoes quietly, the faith element undergirding the narrative but not overwhelming it. It patiently waits for the characters to embrace it, just as our Savior patiently waits for each of us to come to Him, either for the first time or after a misstep. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

3.5 to 4 stars (Note: Rating Shown on Site may differ depending on whether site allows half star ratings)I would put this closer to 3.5 stars than 4. The plot is the straightforward a woman sees a murder and reports it but the investigators can find no evidence of a crime. If you're going to use a standard plot, you better wow me--and sadly, this story didn't. Yet, for all that, I couldn't force myself to rate it only 3 stars on sites that don't allow half star ratings.I did like that Harper is a crime scene photographer who has recently turned her craft to photographing things other than crime scenes.

Always Look Twice continues Elizabeth Goddard’s Uncommon Justice series with a romantic suspense story as thrilling as Never Let Go. For the sake of her mental health, crime scene photographer Harper Reynolds takes a break from her work, travels with her sister, and enjoys photographing the natural beauty of the West. Still, she cannot escape the tragedy of her work and captures a murder on camera. Danger lurks at every turn as she works to hunt down the murderer—with the help of childhood friend Heath McKade, of course. After meeting Heath in Never Let Go, I happily got to know him, alongside Harper, better in Always Look Twice. Both Heath and Harper have pasts that haunt them, and it was oh so sweet to see them working together, simultaneously solving the mystery and healing with a new hope for the future. They make an excellent pair. Now, I am so ready to read Liam’s story. He shows up in Always Look Twice, finally, and I cannot wait to get to know him.I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Title: Always Look Twice (Uncommon Justice #2)Author: Elizabeth GoddardPages: 384Year: 2019Publisher: RevellMy rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe first book in the series is titled Never Let Go, and you don’t want to miss that exciting story either! In this installment, Heath is embroiled in his past memories that affect almost daily his heart, emotions and interactions with people. Harper, who was a friend in Heath’s childhood and whom he has never forgotten, is now in his present when he finds her in the mountains injured. Harper brings with her a boatload of pain from her job, her past and who knows what else. Heath runs a ranch guest business and now even that is being threatened. Who is aiming to hurt Harper and Heath, or is it just Harper? On top of that, Heath has one brother who is now happily married, but he has no clue about his other brother. All he knows is the past keeps cramming his present and he is not seeing himself in any other way but a broken man. I enjoyed the climactic ending, only wondering where the female lead got her flashlight when she finds herself trapped with others in a bunker! There is romance, danger, mystery and more in this second book in the Uncommon Justice Series. The author does a masterful job of bringing the reader along for a wild ride! There are some secondary characters that add such an intriguing dimension to the story. A little is revealed about them, but not where it overshadows the main players. So, kudos to the author for once again keeping me up at night and enjoying a wonderful tale!Hope that you will read both Never Let Go and Always Look Twice before the third and final book is released next year.#AlwaysLookTwice#UncommonJusticeNote: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

The story is a non stop thriller from start to finish. Harper is a very like able character who has been through a tough time. Her job as a crime scene photographer was becoming too emotionally draining for her. I want to stop here for a moment. I applaud the people that do this job for a living. They see things that is unimaginable and terrifying everyday. Without their efforts we would not be able to prove who committed a crime. I liked Harper because she realized she needed a break from this demanding job.Her love for photography takes her into the woods to take scenic pictures one day that looked to be a pleasant outing. I have heard this said about cameras, “The camera never lies.” This one little statement for me is the focus of this story. What Harper sees through her camera on that unforgettable day will turn her life upside down. Can you imagine looking through the lens of your camera and witness a murder? I would run as fast as I could and never look back. The book is well written with intrigue and danger that jumps off the pages. Harper is in danger but for some reason not everyone believes she saw anything. Losing her camera as she tries to get away from the scene will prove to be a huge mistake. The camera has evidence that someone doesn’t want anyone to find.I loved Heath and how protective he was with Harper. He believes her and tries to help her find her camera and keep her safe at the same time. There is one scene in the book where I was on the edge of my seat. Harper and her sister are in a camper and suddenly it starts moving. That one terrifying moment knowing you have no control becomes a life or death situation. The author is brilliant at writing scenes that make you gasp and start hearing noises in your own surrounding. I have not read a book with this intensity in a long time.Who is behind the murder and why can no one find the body? The author cleverly gives subtle hints to this question which can lead to speculation for readers. . The book is a wonderful journey through secrets, trust, danger and and letting go of the past. The faith element in the story is placed at perfect times and I did enjoy Harper and Heath dealing with their past. This has been a great story and I look forward to the next in the series.I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.

This was my favorite book from Elizabeth Goddard. There was so much suspense that I couldn’t put this book down. Harper and Heath are so good together. I enjoy the area they are in and love the description of the wilderness. I loved all the romance, suspense and intrigue. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

This author is great. An interesting storyline with many other intersecting storylines and some romance and faith thrown in. I think even if you aren't a Christian if you like mysteries and a little romance, you will like this book. There are characters relying on their faith so if that is something that makes you mad this might bother you. There are some times in the book where it gets repetitive but the rest of the story makes up for it. I wish authors would trust me to remember a characters misgivings from one chapter to the next but maybe that is necessary for some readers. All in all a clean (no language or s*x) book with an interesting story and characters that you learn enough about to care about. I would read another book about the characters in this one.I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another Elizabeth Goddard book I could not put down! With her trademark flare for intense and fast-paced action and suspense, the author creates an intriguing tale where the past and the present coalesce when Harper, a crime scene photographer, returns to her hometown and becomes a target herself when she witnesses a murder. Heath, a guest ranch owner and volunteer deputy, is pleasantly surprised to see his childhood best friend return to their hometown but quickly gets embroiled in the trouble that follows Harper. The villain actually has a voice in the plot but the identity is cleverly concealed until the end. This easy-to-read story that combines a well-crafted plot, plenty of action and suspense, deeply layered and relatable characters, and great character development will draw you in from the first page. It’s book 2 in Uncommon Justice series but can definitely be read as a stand alone. I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Talk about the edge of your seat, yes, this one will grab you right from the beginning, and it doesn’t let go until the last page is turned. You won’t get to comfortable and you won’t think you know the ending, no, not possible, this one is non-stop action, and then more! Now this is the second book in this series, and they are connected by location and brothers, but they are really stand alone, but don’t miss either of these they are excellent, and there is another brother!Beautiful area of our country, and we experience this in a way, um, you probably wouldn’t really want to, but the author has used a great back ground for this read!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

I knew after reading the first book in the series I wanted to read the second. Always Look Twice is the second in the series and it hooked me from the first chapter when Harper Reyolds captures a murder of a young woman while trying to photograph wildlife. Problem is that the local law doesn't really believe her at first. She is on leave from her job as a crime scene photographer. She is vacationing with her sister in the area where she lived as a child. As a child she was in the house when her father was murdered but did not actually see who did it. This book kept me guessing. Very early on we get into the head of the murderer but what is his motive. Another thing I liked about the book was her reconnecting with her childhood friend Heath McCade. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series which I'm guessing will feature Liam McCade.
