About this audiobook
Combining heart-wrenching emotion with edge-of-your-seat tension, New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin explores the true power of sacrificial love.
Murphy Shepherd has made a career of finding those no one else could—survivors of human trafficking. His life’s mission is helping others find freedom . . . but then the nightmare strikes too close to home.
When his new wife, her daughter, and two other teenage girls are stolen, Murphy is left questioning all he has thought to be true. With more dead ends than leads, he has no idea how to find his loved ones. After everything is stripped away, love is what remains.
Hope feels lost, but Murphy is willing to expend his last breath trying to bring them home.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Hard to put down, eerie at times, suspenseful, riveting, torturous at times, No human can survive what Murph has went through. Murph is the extreme good character but like a humble superhero who is responsible for rescuing everyone solo. Why don’t they call in law enforcement?
just want “GOOD” to prevail and this to end. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such an easy listen! Binged the first book in 2 days and listened to this one in just about 3. Could have been faster had it not been for work. Can’t wait to listen to the final book in this series!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Charles Martin has written an emotionally heartrending, tear-producing, hope confirming, tour-de-force follow-up to the first book in this series. Sex trafficking is a largely unnoticed evil plaguing the world. I am glad more people are bringing this evil into the conversation making people aware of its ever-increasing presence in the shadows. Mr. Martin talks about these victims with compassion, tenderness, sorrow, love, and mercy. It is a shame there is not a real Murphy Shepherd in this world with his resources and physical abilities. We must each be a vocal fighter for these victims. I would recommend reading the first book in the series to get the background. I am eagerly awaiting his third in this series coming out in June. Give these books to someone you love. Make them aware of this evil Teach them to protect themselves and not become a victim.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Letter Keeper by Charles MartinA Murphy Shepherd novel #2Almost put this book down before finishing but decided to read the end, then a bit in the middle, and still unsatisfied with quitting I skimmed it all to find out if what I thought did not make sense might make complete sense by the last page. I felt, when I nearly stopped reading, that this is a series that probably should be read starting with book and I still feel that way after reading as I did although I did manage to get a sense of the main character, his calling, and the life he leads. What I liked: * Shepherd/Bishop: a man with a skill-set and life calling to be admired…although…at times he seemed to have a death wish or perhaps he was an adrenaline junkie. * Bones: co-worker/boss/string puller of Shepherd* The task that Shepherd & Bones have in common and the way they achieve their goal(s)* The way Shepherd keeps track of the people his work has impacted* Gunner: A dedicated, smart, and loving canine companion* The lives saved and the hints about what they were saved from.* Casey: one of the people saved * The parts Marie, Ellie, Summer and Angel played in the story ALTHOUGH this is where having read the first book might have come in handy.* The indestructible constitution Shepherd must have – and his ability to heal from death defying injuries. * Finding out who Bones & Shepherd will probably be chasing in the next book What I didn’t like: * Knowing that there are traffickers in real life as evil or more evil than the ones mentioned in this book. * Thinking about the pain and suffering that those trafficked must experience.* Feeling that I should have read book one before reading this one – felt I must be missing things at times.Did I like this book? Sort ofWould I read more by this author? MaybeThank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Letter Keeper by Charles Martin is book two in the A Murphey Shepherd Novel. When I requested this book, I was not aware this was a book in a series and had no problem following the story. The author does a wonderful job of filling in background information to keep the story moving along and easy to follow. This is a fast-paced, action filled suspenseful story. This story focuses on the topic of human trafficking and the struggles those who are rescued have to work through. With this story we catch up with Murphy as he is finishing high school and follow him through making a career choice that saves so many young people but costs him so much. This story is full of emotional and physical hurt that is not always easy to read but it is also a story that is hard to put down. I was totally surprised with the ending of the story and hope the author has another story to follow.I received a complimentary copy of this story from Thomas Nelson Publishers through NetGalley, this is my honest review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5First, I have not read the first book in this series, but I wasn't lost, the author did a wonderful job of keeping me informed. This is a tough subject, but what a need, which has becomes more evident in the past few years with the news reports and headlines, sick individuals and a fallen world.Murphy Shepherd is awesome, what a heart, and I loved he would leave the 99 to find the 1, yes! There is some sweet romance here, but mostly your heart goes out to those who had been trafficked, the healing if possible, I can't even imagine. Maybe this should be a required reading book? There is another book to come, and we hope for a good out come, there is a bombshell dropped at the end of this read!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Martin continues the story of Murphy Shepherd and his family. As always, there is a lot of adventure, danger, and great character development. The plot revolves around those he has rescued and continues to rescue from captivity. Recommended. Readers will want to read previous books in the series before this one as it refers back to characters and situations in those books. Review based on an advance copy provided by NetGalley.
