About this audiobook
ONE OF THE GREATEST BREAKTHROUGHS IN HUMAN HISTORY. A SECRET THAT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE FOUND. AND A CRISIS THAT CANNOT BE STOPPED. Deep in the Caribbean Sea, a nuclear submarine is forced to suddenly abort its mission under mysterious circumstances. Strange facts begin to emerge that lead naval investigator, John Clay, to a small group of marine biologists who are quietly on the verge of making history. With the help of a powerful computer system, Alison Shaw and her team are preparing to translate the first two-way conversation with the planet's second smartest species. But the team discovers much more from their dolphins than they ever expected when a secret object is revealed on the ocean floor. One that was never supposed to be found. Alison was sure she would never trust the military again. However, when an unknown group immediately becomes interested in her work, Alison realizes John Clay may be the only person she can trust. Together they must piece together a dangerous puzzle, and the most frightening piece, is the trembling in Antarctica. To make matters worse, someone from the inside is trying to stop them. Now time is running out...and our understanding of the world is about to change forever.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am so glad I stumbled upon this book! I read it the first time, and listened to it this time. (Love Scott Brick!) I’m restarting the entire series! Michael is incredibly creative & imaginative! To even come up with the ideas behind this book amazes me.
I absolutely loved all of the different story lines going on at the same time. My favorite though was IMIS and Dirk & Sally! It makes you wonder what truly is possible!
I’ve also started his Monument series and will be finishing those after this re-read.
I recommended this series to two family members, and they enjoyed it as much as I did!
Finally, I can’t believe he is self-published - I’m shocked one of the big publishers didn’t snatch this up! Their loss ;-) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Huge thanks to the Author for taking me on this adventure! This is by far the best book in the last year I have finished. ( and I read and listen to books a lot).
Looking forward to new books from the Author.
Regards, Gunnar - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5At the edge of my seat.
Scooch over Michael Crichton!! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was exciting and I enjoyed the voice actor’s work as well. There were several settings with different characters, so I think I may have missed a bit just trying to keep each setting’s characters straight. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Outstanding. We'll written and excellently narrated. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I picked this book up on a whim, didn’t even read the plot…. What a surprise! The book was filled with adventures and kept me engaged until the last page! If you like James Rollins or Clive Cussler you will certainly like this book.
For any parents out there the other surprising aspect of the book is that it’s content is clean and completely safe for a young adult audience! My daughter is obsessed with dolphins and I am going to get her to read this book next! I can’t wait to read the next one! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. Because I googled "books narrated by Scott Brick", I found this great new author. Thank you Michael for a good plot, fun character development and an ending that did not disappoint. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by you.
Scott Brick, What can I say? You are by far my favorite narrator. I thank you for helping me find new authors as well as continuing with my already favorite authors. ?? - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The mystery and the different threads in the book were great and I did enjoy the characters. BUT there was a shoe-horned romance (!!), a few convenient, unexplained miracles, and a few confusing abuses of power too many for this to stay at 3 stars. The beginning starts out strong, but that ending was too much to swallow.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this one, and hope to continue the series. Researchers create a data base and translation program to understand Dolphins. Meanwhile, the Navy loses a submersible and asks the researchers for help. What the dolphins discover is otherworldly.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I will be honest... I didn't truly know quite what to expect with this book as I'd not read anything by this author before. Wow! I'm now THRILLED I got this amazing book. I was completely and utterly hooked within the first chapter. Imagine if you will, a dolphin aquarium... Same old same old right? WRONG!! Allison and her team of misfit scientists and a wonderful computer "white hat" hacker have done the impossible. Using a computer and a program specially designed, they used it to video and track their two in house dolphins extraordinaire... DIRK and SALLY 🐬🐬. Slowly this system has been tracking their clicks (sounds they make) in response to questions asked. The teams hope is this computer will help translate the dolohin language and make communication possible. With tons of data, Ali and her team know its possible...its just a matter of when. They're all workaholics, but after a very long day they force themselves to leave. Alison goes in early the next day to retrieve her notebook...about to leave, something catches her eye. EUREKA!! Three words are translated already! Calling the team in they are all very excited! Everything goes quickly from there. Fairly soon there are far more than three words! Considered a joke in her scientific community thanks to a past resesrch trial thst the Navy stole and delayed her getting back data for so long that nobody in her circles believed her...she has every right NOT to trust the Navy again. So imagine her shock and disdain when two Navy men come calling. John Clay and his friend Steve immediately know she seems to have an aversion to either the government, Navy, or both...they just dont know why. Yet they have a job to do. Their bosses wqnt to borrow her beloved dolphins to retrieve a lost rover on the ocean floor. There is something down there, and they need to get it. Suffice to say that from here on out there is oodles of action, dolphin talking to humans, shocking discoveries, immense politics, political backstabbing, and immense worry for the safety of the planet. Who would think two dolphins could be the ones to possibly save the day? So take the ride...meet Dirk, Sally and an amazing cast of characters. I for one got to the last page and just knew i had to read more. Luckily there are a few more books in this series to get to read!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Some interesting ideas and lots of action, but the writing is not good enough to make me come back for the sequels.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Breakthrough by Michael C. Grumley is a good sci-fi book where you can cheer for the dolphins, talk with the dolphins, meet with aliens, and hate on the corrupt government (esp. the idiot one that kept calling the dolphins fish!). I will certainly follow this series. The book is narrated by Scott Brick and he did a fabulous job! Loved the plot, characters, dolphins, and the aliens!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was in the mood to read an action/adventure type book for a change, and this one didn't disappoint! The highest praise I can give a book of this genre is that it was similar to reading a Michael Crichton book.....and this one hit the mark! This was action/adventure/science and a little sci-fi too. It kept me turning the pages. A very good first book for this author. I'll be watching for more from him.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you are a fan of Clive Cussler books, you'll enjoy this one. This story is in the same style, with a twist. Although I wasn't a fan of the twist, I enjoyed the story (although I think some of the sub stories weren't necessary but, then again I feel the same thing in some of the Cussler books).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very enjoyable SciFi thriller. Loved the characters, especially the dolphins, Sally and Dirk, who I thought were developed well. Also Clay, of course. It was one of those books switching between multiple story lines, all of which keep your attention and keep you reading. You might even be tempted to read ahead. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book a lot though there are some serious logical problems in the book. Normally that would bother me---but Grumley has penned such an enjoyable book that I just ignore them. Even the huge whopper at the end. I found the book to be well paced with a good buildup to a very startling climax. If anything, the ending was a mite abrupt and perhaps a little too saccharine but that's a very minor complaint. This book really is a nice find.
