It had been a while since I had read the last book in the Blue Blood series. When I picked up this new book I was immediatley swept into this novel. Chapter by chapter it drew me in more and I finished the book in one afternoon. Something I havenlt done in a long time! I can not wait for the final novel in this series coming out later this year.

This was an overly complicated version of the Christian theology-based vampire fantasy. As book 6 in the series, I certainly missed 5 books of story jumping in at this one, but the amount of backstory, and the way it was provided in this novel bogged down the actual plot of this book. The world-building seems pretty complicated, a system of magic and a history that are as complex as in series many thousands of pages longer, so perhaps it seems so complicated in part because so much is being crammed into so few pages.
As a romp through a vampire-infested world with sword battles, daring escapes, and a few not-too-steamy sex scenes, this book isn't bad, but it was not the best I've read from this subgenre.

Background: The quest continues for Schuyler and Jack to find the gates, Mimi and Oliver are going to hell to retrieve Kingsley and in this book we get more background on Allegra and Charles' relationship.Review: I enjoyed this book in the series and am interested to see the end...which better come soon :/...waiting sucks. I liked Mimi a lot more in this book than the others, she is becoming a better person and I really like that. I loved that this book FINALLY let us see into what happened between Charles and Allegra, and that it isn't as cut and dry as most of the Blue Bloods believe. I did not like that Schuyler is becoming all emotional and maybe even a little clingy with Jack. She was such a strong character, that I really liked in the beginning, and now her strength has been transferred over to Mimi it seems, Schuyler is just a love-sick puppy right now.

Yet again I am sucked right into the world that de la Cruz has created. I love the double paranormal aspect of the vampires being fallen angels (I'm hoping that by book 6 if you're reading my review you knew this already.) I love the continuing story of Jack and Schuyler. I love the new and different direction the relationships between Oliver and Mimi and Kingsley and Mimi have taken! Every chapter was full of intrigue, action, adventure, and all the kinds of things that make a person keep reading. And at the end all I could think of is 'when can I start the next book!?' This series has gone beyond my expectations and I'm so so glad of that.

Ah, what a shame!

I LOVED this series at the beginning. The first four books were really good. They were interesting, well written, unique and captivating. It's completely lost its way though, sadly. The last two books have been huge let downs.

This was just really... boring. I feel like it was a waste of time and money and I don't feel like I gained anything by reading it. It was really all over the place and I just didn't care! Whatever spark these books used to have is sadly gone and it's such a pity. I don't honestly have a whole lot to say about it- it was just awfully dull.

I do not think I'll read the final book- unless I can get it from the library. A real disappointment. Perhaps she should have wrapped up the series at book four.

This is the sixth book in the Blue Bloods series by Cruz. I almost didn’t read this book because I have been very disappointed in the last two books. Then I heard that the seventh book, Gates of Paradise, was going to release the end of Jan 2013 and that it was going to be the final book in the series. So, I decided to go ahead and read this book. This book continued to be lackluster. There are a ton of POVs and not a lot going on.The story is told from Mimi’s, Schuyler’s, and Allegra’s POV. Jack and Schuyler have been married and Jack is convinced to delay his vengeance on Mimi in order to help Schuyler search for one of the gates. Mimi is determined to journey to Hell in order to win back Kingsley and Oliver is along helping her out.Allegra’s story is told in the past. She tells about how she fell in love with Ben and betrayed Charles. I think this is supposed to be getting us the back story about why Allegra ended up in a coma. However the timing of these portions is confusing and the story itself is boring. This backstory could have easily been explained in a few paragraphs instead of one third of the book. Also having these sections prefaced with a date would have alleviated some of the confusion. The book is more like three novellas parsed awkwardly together than one continuous story. All in all I was not impressed. I wasn’t even going to read this book until I saw that the next book, Gates of Paradise, will be the final book in this series.All of the female characters seem to have lost their spunk and are merely pawns of the men they love. Schuyler ends up following what Jack around and is constantly being saved by him or being kept safe by him. Mimi journeys to Hell in the hopes that Kingsley still loves her. While Mimi’s story does tie into other things, I was surprised that her retrieving Kinsley was such a big part of the story.Allegra’s back story is just as sad and disappointing. She betrays everyone to follow her true love and then ends up messing things up horribly.The story is boring overall, predictable, and scattered. I just don’t care what’s happening, too much has been added that doesn’t matter to the main story. I do miss Bliss and wonder where she’s gone to.The book was decently written and readable. Just not all that engaging or interesting.I guess go ahead and read this is you want to finish up the series. Just don’t expect a lot. The main female characters are love-sick fools who betray those around them in the name of love. I have a lot of trouble engaging with any of them.Overall another lackluster addition to this series. It’s okay, the story progresses some, but definitely not as good as early books in the series. There are too many POVs and too many things going on that aren’t related to the main story. This is more like three novellas squished into one book than an actual book. I would like to finish the series, but I am not sure if I will read Gates of Paradise if it is another exercise in mediocrity like this book.

I'm getting tired of the Blue Blood series. I wish that de la Cruz would wrap things up so that we can have some conclusion to these books. They must be popular, because she keeps writing, but I want to know what happens. I get tired of Jack and Schulyer after awhile. Yes, they're sort of starcrossed, yes bad things are going to happen. But I just don't care. I found the Mimi and Oliver storyline to be much more interesting and would like to read more of that, especially with what happened at the end of this book. But, for god's sake, let's sort out Jack and Schuyler already.

I have been a huge fan of this series but this book left me with mixed feelings. The portion focusing on Schuyler and Jack was disappointing. They get married, have sex, Jack wants to nobly go face his doom with Mimi and Schuyler is determined to save him. Nothing really new there. The whole thing with Catherine of siena and the Gate of Promise left me feeling a little confused and it was pretty hard to swallow than an angel set this all up.The other half of the story regarding Mimi's journey to save Kingsley was more enjoyable for me. It was interesting watching Mimi and Oliver interact especially once Mimi makes the decision that she will sacrifice Oliver in order to save Kingsley. You got to hand it to the girl for having some of the most cold hearted calculations of any person who is supposedly on the side of good. She does show a glimmer of humaneness as she feels twinges of conscience at the thought of condemning Oliver to hell after everything he's done for her. However what really bothered me about her about her character in this book was her feelings toward Jack and Schuyler. It made no sense to me that she was so hell bent on vengeance towards Jack and hatred of Schuyler when she was basically risking her life and that of someone who has become a true friend to her in order to save another man because she's so in love with him. Really? Don't you think that's a little hypocritical?That said I love seeing Kingsley and the humor and bad boy charm he brings to the story. I thought Mimi's attempt to rescue him and the final conclusion was well done and left me for the most part satisfied. The conclusion to this chapter in the Jack and Schuyler story was just as dissatisfying as the rest of their story in this book and I was ambivalent towards the portion dealing with Allegra's past and how she came to give birth to Schuyler and Bliss. Over all this addition to the series was just ok. Doesn't turn me off of the series but I am hoping to see an improvement in the next book.

The Blue Bloods are back and looking for saving in all the wrong places. Sky and Jack are searching in Alexandria to learn that where they really need to be is Cairo. Mimi and Oliver also in Cairo to rescue Kingsley who is in 7th level of Hell. We also meet some unlikely characters in this book. Lennox brothers who use to be part of Kingsley's team. Mimi begins to wonder after she talks to Kingsley whether he ever loved her. Oliver trusts Mimi about as far as he can throw her. Jack is trying everything he can think of to severe the bond with Mimi without killing each other. And Sky thinks she may be with child and doesn't realize the bond is killing her slowly. We also learn more about Allegra and her bond Charles Force.What a great and thrilling journey this book takes you on. I love the writing style and the stories in general how they end up overlapping each other. Can't wait to read the next one!

What I liked about this is there's no idle time. De la Cruz went to the heart of the matter and just gave us the delicious parts. In every chapter someone is in the middle of either a mad chase, an emotional upheaval or literally in Hell striking deals with demons. Who would've thought that Hell looks a lot like New York! We even got front row seat tickets to a showdown between the Angels of Death and Destruction, Azrael and Abaddon, Mimi and Jack. What's puzzling is at the end we see them swearing fealty to Lucifer. Makes me wonder what the time stamp is when they rendered the services of their swords to the Angel of Light.

Can I just say how much this book is The Bomb Diggity? I mean really, it is da bomb! OK, first off the plot line. Man o man, was it good. I have never felt right at home when reading this book. With every turn of the page, I felt the energy flowing between my fingers as I delved into this world. Everything is at its own time and nothing is left out.The characters of this book are right where they are supposed to be and them some. So many new changes, both good and bad, had me smiling. I love the fight they all had. All of the characters fought for what they believe in. They didn't back down or give up. They were willing to sacrifice anything to get what they wanted. There were also a few plot surprises that left me breathless. I mean, I stand amazed after reading this book and well, I'm sure after you read it, you will feel the same way.The love interest in this book is even more enduring. The emotions, heart-ache, and selflessness is over flowing in this book. I love that Ms. De La Cruz, gave her readers a magnificent few of great descriptions of everything. I really felt like I was in the story, traveling the world, fighting for those who I love, and most of all, fighting for myself.If you have not read The Blue Blood series, you need to! This series goes from good to holy freaking awesomeness batman, in 5 second flat! Ms. De La Cruz amazes her readers, captivating them in her great and wonderful writing. Once you are in this world, there is no looking back. And with the surprises that Ms. De La Cruz throws at you, it is no wonder all of her readers always come back wanting more!
