Reviews for Bonefire of the Vanities

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Diabolical. I knew who the bad guys were, but the ending was not only a surprise, but truly clever, inspired and diabolical.
I truly love the Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries, and obviously, this one did not disappoint. The characters feel like old friends and Zinnia, Mississippi someplace I once called home and visit from time to time, whenever Ms. Haines writes a new book. Sarah Booth and Tinkie make a great team, and the ongoing struggles between their chosen career and their respective loves is always heartfelt, realistic and touching. Bonefire of the Vanities takes on the world of Mediums and scam artists and Jitty isn't the only ghost floating the halls. Some fun, spooky moments and some great sleuthing - I'm thrilled that this series has been running strong since the beginning, showing no signs of losing steam. I look forward to the next book. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A solid entry. Another man in love with her -- Harold. Is she becoming more sensitive to other ghosts than Jitty?
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Certainly not my favorite in the series. Still not completely feeling the connection with Graf ...feeling Coleman....Graf will always be second best.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sarah Booth and Tinkie go undercover as private maids to protect, Marjorie Littlefield, a wealthy woman who has turned herself over to an organization that promises to contact the dead for people. When they arrive they find they have reason for concern, the complex has more security than the white house and the staff is controlled with an iron fist. Marjorie is determined to contact her dead daughter even if it is the death of her. And Marjorie is not the only one who could be in danger. When one of the kitchen staff dies under questionable circumstances, Sarah Booth ramps up her attempts to get Marjorie to leave as well as attempting to solve the murder before another body shows up. Oops, too late.I love this series. There is always something going on and no matter how mundane the job seems at first, Sarah Booth always manages to end up battered and bruised. And despite being away from her beloved Dalia House, we get see a lot of Jitty, one of my favorite characters and Sarah Booth's personal haint. Always lots of fun. Be sure to read these in series to understand all the relationships.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another great entry in the Sarah Booth Delandy mystery seriess. All the favorite characters are back, including the four-legged ones. But a black cat names Pluto steals the show and saves the day. Very enjoyable. Even though Sarah Booth has moved on to her movie-star boyfriend, I still hold out hope for her old beau, Coleman, to make a comeback.
