I actually liked this better than The Beast of Beswick. This was a fun story of a husband and wife who needed to get to know one another. The side characters were fun and it is always interesting to see characters (Roth) see their beliefs and truths pulled out from under them.

I loved this so much! After already loving The Beast of Beswick I was so excited for this one, and it did not disappoint. Like a good number of readers I have been working on Bridgerton lately after all the excitement of the Netflix show, and this gave me so many of the same vibes which I am HERE for. Definitely recommend if you are feeling period romance, need more like The Duke and I, or just love a romance where the wife has to convince her husband to come home and fix their relationship.

Can we PLEASE quit it with the Lady Whistledown rip-offs, it's becoming rather tedious & especially when it's done so badly.

A British newspapers made history around 60 years ago for being the 1st publication to print a swear word... it definitely would NOT have been done in the 1800s... this was the era where showing an ankle was considered scandalous & even holding hands in public with your own husband was considered improper... so having a "society paper" printing swear words, would've been a massive no-no!

The author went for crass rather than innuendo, which is what would've been the done thing!

Also, the author clearly confuses lust for love...

It was really silly at times & the author tried to modernise the era, which completely ruined the immersion.

Women were considered their husband's property until the late 1800s, in Prinny's time, which was early 1800s they had no rights whatsoever... even Jane Austen had to write anonymously...

All in all, not for me... I only really liked the ending, the rest of it was mostly nonsensical & absolutely nothing to do with the era it was meant to be written about!

Very good book. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'll be reading the rest of the books in the series.
