About this audiobook

The first work in David Gerrold's Star Wolf trilogy, this tale pits the human members of the Star Wolf space vessel against the superhuman Morthan crew. Captain Jonathan Korie, hampered by the loss of most of the human fleet to the Morthans and a nearly disabled ship of his own, faces the Morthan threat driven by the need for survival and the desire for revenge. A classic of military science fiction, the Star Wolf trilogy combines rapid action with powerful studies of military character.

This is great Science Fiction. Emphasis on Science. The background comentary of space travel ship construction will be great if you like engineering with some quantum physics rhrown in. The book creates a reality of what our distant future could be. The narrator takes some time to get use to.

David Gerrold's work has always been full of humor and intellectual integrity....a non-blinking honesty about the human condition...while also delivering amazing action adventure with twisty plots.

Best one in the series. Actual action and not just talking. I would read this one and skip the others.

Bit of a shaky start as there was little or no interpersonal activity up until chapter 5/6. But once the ship got going I found it increasingly interesting and that was me full speed ahead. Though admittedly I was a fair bit slower paced than 300x the speed of light… Finished it pretty much in one go with several toilet breaks. That speaks for itself in my book. Enjoy…

Narrator ruined it for me. He almost sounds sarcastic or something. No bueno.

Get on with Story already! Tech manuals are all well and good when I Know that's what I'm reading not when it's supposed to be a Classic SF story.

This book was a good enough listen but not a “can’t put it down” type book. I can see how the narrator could be annoying to some but this is an audio BOOK one must still use their imagination. The story line was fine the characters could have been further developed. My biggest criticism is that it seemed like I was reading an abridged version. Lots of room in this story for more details which could have added more depth and color.

I can't get past the narration. I made it almost to the end of chapter 5.

Space opera set in a near Star Trek ish universe that is much closer to the original series than the next generation in social norms. The women characters are poorly wrought caricatures with the exception of the highly competent doctor who is very lonely due to her ugliness which the author spends a disconcerting amount of words describing.

I had to stop listening on Chapter 5 and still no premise. The book went in extensive details about the ship. If you like technical specs on space ships, this book is for you.

The writing and the storytelling was nice. The problem is that every time that something good happens the author writes it off. The book might as well have not happened. The main character is a side character, the failure is the real main character.

The first 5 chapters are awful. Then the story kicks in once you get to the convoy of ships and it gets interesting. Consider just skipping the first few chapters and you will enjoy it.
