My love affair with the goal setting began as a child. My aspirations at that time were little more than wishes. I wanted something specific to happen (for example, I wanted my mother to take me to the amusement park) or something (a new video game) to be purchased. Sadly, I was thwarted by the steps I needed to take in order to accomplish such "goals." Likewise, other adults approach goal setting using this method, but it doesn't really work or does it? They define something they want-for instance, to retire at age 60-but they don't build a realistic plan to make that possible.
To me, reaching the target was often an infuriating experience. It was rapturous for me in times of success and I experience a lot of anger whenever I fail. I've been struggling over three decades to learn what works and what doesn't, and have failed more times than I can remember.
The thing is, the easy part is to set goals. The difficult part is to reach them in a timely and consistent manner.
