About this audiobook

In a world of monsters, a beast slayer confronts a foe more deadly than any creature the world has seen. As the battle draws close, so too does the Reckoning?

Afflicted by the incessant rot of beasts, the people of Asthradele have never known life without war. The threat of the next Bestial Tide has always been enough to keep the realms united. But what's it all worth if the world is dying?

Seb du Monte is one of the many men and women dedicated to fighting the Tides. As a newly fledged Knight-Questor from a venerable lineage of beast slayers, sworn to protect Asthradele, his journey begins in earnest when he leaves his home to undertake the Questing Rites.

But when a powerful force threatens what he holds dear, all the weaponry, cunning, and training he possesses may not be enough to defeat it.Fates collide and all will hang in the balance.

Overall I would say this is a quality fantasy story. The language that is used to describe certain scenes is beautiful, and the world that is depicted shows a lot of thought was put towards its creation. The fight scenes are quite good too, not the best that I've ever read but they do the job well.

I think that the only thing that this story really has going against it is that the main character is kind of bland. I believe that the story tries to portray Seb as your typical idealistic and good souled type of person, but it does it by doing a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. There's no situation in which Seb is really allowed to show what kind of person he is, and so you're kind of left with just some guy who happens to be in the middle of all this. The events happening around Seb are what is interesting, as opposed to Seb himself.

In fact there are very few characters throughout the book that I would label as interesting, or are given very much time to show some personality. Most are just names amongst a lot of words, if that makes any sense.

But this is just the first book in what is supposed be a multi-work saga, so I choose not to let my complaint about character count too much against the book's overall score.

    I would give it a 6.5/10.
