- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Alex Woods loses both parents in an automobile accident and then learns that she has a long lost sister. Her mother had a child just after finishing high school and put the baby girl up for adoption. Throughout the book you just arn't sure of Dory and like most books and movies Alex makes some moves that you want very much to scream at her to stop. This is a quick, fast read - - I was hoping for a little more depth. There maybe could have been another chapter or so. This was my first book by Patricia MacDonald - - I think I'll try another one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really like the story about these two sisters but again, ‘I love you’, comes out way too fast in this story. What’s wrong with leading the story into the direction of a new relationship. What’s love got to do with it?
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A few minor plot twists but rather predictable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I need to listen to/read more by MacDonald---I liked this audio a lot but somehow the ending seemed just okay---a sequel would help.....
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The idea of this book was more or less interesting (orphaned 20-something girl, Alex, discovers she has a half-sister, Dory. Turns out Dory is in jail for murder, but Alex thinks she may be innocent, and fights to prove this.) The reader predictably goes back & forth trying to decide whether or not Dory is actually guilty or not. The problem was that everything was fairly predictable, clichéd, and there was nothing in this novel that hasn't been told before, and by a better writer. I never felt invested in the story, and nothing about it really made it remarkable. The basic storyline itself was decent, but I think it could've been written so much better. Sadly, this will be one that's likely going to be pretty forgettable for me.
