Description

Today's conversation is all about Vitamin D, why we need it as humans and athletes, as well as what dosage we require. We are joined by Dr Dan Owens PHD of Liverpool John Moores University to discuss.
Dan shares his background in Vitamin D research as well the application of his research and studies in the sporting world in Rugby Union, Rugby League and Football.
Initially, we explore the history of Vitamin D alongside the risk factors that lead to deficiencies especially in the UK.  We cover the recent discussions around ethnicity and Vitamin D and touch briefly how this relates to Covid19.
Importantly, Dan shares the 4 key areas where Vitamin D intake impacts both performance as an athlete and general health including our immune systems, muscle recovery, heart adaptations, and bone health.
Last, we cover effective dosages and sources for Vitamin D, whether we should adjust it during the year as well as the impact of sunbeds.
