Walmart is not only in just about every neighborhood in the USA, but has also shown its presence in Costa Rica!  
They have built stores all over Costa Rica.  In addition, they have purchased many of the local, big-box grocery stores.  They started their reign about 8 or so years ago.  They purchased HiperMas, Mas x Menos, Pali and a few more smailer stores.  
When I first started visiting Costa Rica in late 2002, it was so hard to get anything that one was used to living in the USA!  You had to bring it in when visiting or had to ask someone to bring it for you!
We talk in this short episode a little about their influence...the good and the bad.
But honestly, it is nice to have what you need at your fingertips.  I still shop local, but when I need something from the USA, I go to Walmart!
