As you grow as a writer and author, you need to study not only great writing but bad writing as well. While great writing shows us the gold standard and can inspire us, bad writing teaches us what to avoid. We cannot know and understand what we need to avoid if we do not see it in context. We can study grammar books all we want and look at their examples, but doing so will only get us so far. We need to be able to identify bad writing, and we need to be able to identify why it is bad.
