This week on the podcast we’re going to talk about the power of starting small in relation to taking action. Oftentimes our brain has a tendency to make things a bigger deal than they are and by doing so it causes us to freeze. It is almost as if we’re pole vaulting over ‘mouse turds’.When should you start small?If we find ourselves in overwhelm If we find ourselves paralyzed and not taking actionWhat are the benefits of of starting small?It allows us to feel excited and empowered by our goal(s) rather than overwhelmed and defeatedIt allows us to create traction and build momentum because we follow through and create trust with yourselfWe build capacity. For example if you haven’t worked out in a long time you may want to start with 8 pound weights vs going straight to 20 pound weights and gassing yourself out. Starting with 8 pound weights, then increasing to 10, 12, 15, 20, helps you build capacity over time. And when you start small, you’re more likely to stick to whatever it is that you want to keep doing. When we’ve never done something before and are doing something new, start small to avoid overwhelmWays to start small:Instead of wanting to lose 20 pounds, start with 5 poundsNeed to plan a launch, rather than planning the whole thing at once and getting overwhelmed If you don’t regularly meditate, rather than planning to meditate for 20 minutes, you try 5 minutesNeed to hire out and entire function of your business but feels overwhelming, start by creating an SOPCreating social media content. Rather than saying you’re going to post for the next 30 days in a row, commit to posting 5 days in a row first. Remember, anytime your brain wants to go into overwhelm ask yourself…“How can I get started right now?”“What is an easy first step?”“What is something small I can do right now?”“What is a small action I can take?”Thank you for tuning in again, friends!
