She received her medical degree from Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did her residency with Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. She also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship with the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies and worked as an Olympic Team Physician and for the Colorado Avalanche Hockey team. She is also a volunteer puppy raiser for the nonprofit organization Canine Companions for Independence and has been a board member of that organization for the past 5 years.
