Description

It's that time of year again where we sit down and chat with two members of the DNS executive leadership team, outgoing DNS chair Lauren Probstfeld and incoming chair, Emily Schwartz, here to talk with us about all things DNS – including accomplishments, challenges and what’s ahead in the 2023-2024 program year. Lauren Probstfeld, MS, RD, CNSC, is a registered dietitian with several years of experience as a nutrition support clinician practicing in multiple areas of acute care. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition degree from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Nutrition degree from Texas Woman’s University. She currently serves as the medical ICU dietitian at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX and plays an active role on her facility’s nutrition support team. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys precepting dietetic students and participating in original research projects thus giving her the ability to advance the nutrition profession by presenting her work at symposiums and conferences nationwide. Emily Schwartz, DCN, RD, CNSC,  is a board-certified nutrition support clinician with more than 15 years of clinical experience in nutrition support. She has worked for Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi for the past 14 years, where she helps manage parenteral nutrition therapy for hospitalized patients as part of the interdisciplinary Metabolic Support Service. She completed her doctorate in clinical nutrition in 2020 at Rutgers University, where she completed a residency in nephrology and published papers on a variety of clinical topics.  She has a special interest in advocating for the role of the dietitian in the inpatient setting, and for promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to help improve patient care. This episode is hosted by Christina Rollins, MBA, MS, RDN, LDN, FAND, CNSC, and was recorded on 4/16/23.
